MMM Summer 2025 Part 1

The Modern Magus Magazine

The dread hour is upon us, Contractor. The Evening Bell tolls for thy wallet, and not a quarter shall be spared in its judgment.

Throwing my old man Hassan impression aside, the Summer event means a number of things for us players, but above all, it's the true anguish of being torn between two banners of your favorites, weighing up gameplay benefits, while all the same being anxiously unaware of how good the Servants in the second banner will be as the first tempts you.

Well, be not tempted, for I am here! Your friendly neighborhood Manuscript-Manifesting Magus will guide you through Lasengle’s maze of misdirection, and hopefully they’ll stop making cheesy superhero lines in the meantime!

AltriaCaster Summer 2025
NA Release Date: 08/2025

Altria Caster (Berserker)

Introduction

Boy, immediately after the mess that Morgan-Aesc-Tonelico is, we get a slightly different issue in an Artoria form that is very difficult to make a smooth nickname for. Castorizerker. Zerkertoria? Summercasterzerkertoriavalon?

I’m just going for Zerktoria, since I don’t see any other Berserker Artorias, do you?

(Frantically checks the Servant catalog to ensure I haven’t forgotten someone in this game’s 8 year history)

Magic Resistance B

Increase your Debuff Resist by 17.5%.

Item Construction E

Increase your Debuff Chance Rate by 2%.

Fae Eyes ?

Increase your Critical Chance Resist by 20%

Overview

As an SSR Berserker, Zerktoria naturally is in a class renowned for its offensive prowess at the cost of all else. Among her fellow Berserkers, she’s largely middle-of-the-road offensively, with the 7th best Attack of her class and rarity (funnily, placed slightly below Morgan), and matched by having the 8th best HP - exactly average, essentially.

While in general Berserkers being more offensively-leaned is simply better for efficiency’s sake, sometimes that extra HP pool may matter, especially if you’re looking to actually keep them alive over time instead of treating them like disposable ballistic missiles, as much as Kintoki loves being one.

Considering her base form, it’s unsurprising that Zerktoria’s passive lineup is also pretty good. With high-ranking Madness Enhancement providing a solid boost to her Busters’ damage, she also packs a neat little utility trio in Item Creation, Magic Resistance, and Fae Eyes, slightly improving how effectively she debuffs foes, but also improving her resilience to crits and debuffs alike.

And before you ask, her Fae Eyes passive is also “?” rank in-game. The profile for Zerktoria doesn’t provide much more elaboration on this, but she does have some profile text locked behind the event, so who knows. It’s baffling for sure.

Conclusion

So how is Saber Caster Berserker Electric Boogaloo, overall? Well, on the one hand, she’s made to defeat evil, and it certainly shows:

As tends to be the theme with Arts ST Berserkers, Zerktoria is a menace when it comes to her offensive might and versatility in difficult content - she easily forms continual NP chains backed up by consistent Crits, dishing out high damage to a wide variety of enemies. While existing Servants like Vlad and Galatea fill the same niche, neither has the same level of gauge charger Zerktoria does, and similarly their damage peaks don’t come close to Zerktoria’s, then again her other perks. As a result she’s one of the most reliable ST damage dealers in the game, whether for farming or difficult content.

Zerktoria’s supportive qualities are surprisingly powerful. With her NP dropping a powerful defensive buff on the team every time she uses it, on top of the supportive utility out of her targeted gauge charge + Overcharge boost skill, she’s very effective at keeping the team, including herself, alive and also improving the speed and potency of her team’s NP’s should you use it that way.

However, she’s also looking very…graceful, yes, graceful, in her second ascension outfit. Onore, Oberon, indeed:

This is definitely leaning on the nitpicky side of things, but Zerktoria as an Arts looper is more gauge charger-dependent than her competitors, as opposed to getting insane refund inherently off her NP. While this makes her more consistent to work with, it does mean she can be left a little high and dry and dependent on card luck to continue building up NP gauge when buffs run off and skills are on CD, whereas Servants like Vlad can keep building a large sum of gauge just from a string of NP’s.

I’ll be frank, it’s not surprising to anyone that Castoria converted into an offensive Arts Berserker is insanely good. It’d be like spitting on the legacy of the game’s strongest Servant for her to not be good.

While her overall archetype is well-established at this point and doesn’t need much elaboration, she’s certainly the strongest of her kind thus far, overshadowing Vlad and Galatea both in their once-important rivalry. She’s got good damage, strong refund, and very strong defensive utility that almost means she can ignore her Berserker class’s weaknesses while reaping the benefits.

So far as single-target Arts offense goes there’s little better than her, so she should certainly be on your radar if you need to shore up your roster in that area.

…I swear I’m content with Vlad, I’m saving for Summer Melusine. I swear… sniff

Suzuka Gozen (Rider)

Introduction

You might be right, BB Bot on Discord guy, but you don’t have to say it out loud… she’s my coomer bait damn it!

Servant Data
Rider
Riding A

Increase your Quick Card effectiveness by 10%.

Magic Resistance D

Increase your Debuff Resist by 12.5%.

Territory Creation C

Increase your Arts Card effectiveness by 6%.

Divinity A

Apply Damage Plus for yourself (Total Card Damage +200).

Overview

As an SR Rider, Suzuka rolls up with a mostly balanced statline. With the 6th best Attack and tied 7th worst HP, she’s got a solid offensive profile but doesn’t lose out too much on durability for it. Better that than to have an attack stat like Martha’s, that’s for sure.

She has a boatload of passives to supplement herself further, though all of them are standard passives. Divinity, Riding, and Territory Creation give her some handy offensive boosts, especially the card boosts to her 2 primary card types, while Magic Resistance, the class standard for Knights, provides her with a small layer of protection versus debuffs.

Conclusion

So how’s Suzuka overall? On the one hand, I’m no simp, but I’m just saying, haha, girl, I’m y’know, available:

Despite my seeming focus on the farming side of things, Suzuka is pretty adept in difficult content. Her critical damage game is pretty good, and naturally takes advantage of the high amount of stars her NP will produce in a supported setup to dish out high damage through the buffs on her second skill. Add in her combo of effective damage bonuses and her Invincible Pierce, and there are very few foes that she won’t be able to shred given ample opportunity. The minor supportive aspects of her kit certainly help, too.

While she has to jump through a few hurdles for it, Suzuka isn’t a half-bad farmer. Her damage output is more than sufficient for class advantage farming, and she can branch to farming class-neutral nodes if she can hit her Earth attribute effectiveness. This naturally applies to her performance in difficult content, too, using the refund on her NP to continually dish out solid AOE damage.

However, and in this Summer it’s more important to say than ever, in this household we do not bow to THOTS! BEGONE:

Fundamentally even if Suzuka is capable as a farmer, she’s not appealing as one. Habetrot’s existence gives a high bar for SR farmers to overcome, and Suzuka is no different, outclassed in the potency of her gauge charger, her damage output, and even her functional utility for farming overall, she’s working from a setback even before considering that Arts farming in a broader sense is stronger than Quick. As a result she’ll never be the number 1 farmer for her class in anyone’s Chaldea, unless they have access to Quick supports but not Arts ones.

As much as I consider Habetrot’s inclusion as a pseudo-welfare a blessing for this game, it’s equally a curse whenever I have to review Riders on the MMM. Even before pitting Suzuka against other Quick farmers like Achilles I’m having to compare her to Habetrot, and that’s a fight very few Servants can win, then again come out unscathed.

But on principle, there’s no serious issues with Suzuka. She’s a capable farmer, her performance in difficult content is pretty great, and AWOOGA AWOOGA *BARK* *BARK*

Ahem

Truly having to spend hours reviewing these Servant’s profiles and, uh, artwork is a burden. But one I must bear.

Point being, if you are in that rare circumstance where Habetrot isn’t cutting it due to your lack of Arts-based supports, but have Skadi/Ruler Skadi, then Suzuka is definitely for you. If not, she’s still a solid Servant that offers a certain flavour of variety you can introduce to gameplay, without feeling like a failure of an investment. Rath™ Seal of Approval.

Chloe von Einzbern (Avenger)

Introduction

I’m gonna be frank, while I do like the Prisma Ilya series, the degree of horniness it tends to get with characters who are 100% stated to be in-universe 10 year-olds is pretty weird, and boy does the Summer form of Kuro highlight this.

At least Ilya’s Summer form was more cute than anything else, but sheesh, mesh tops, and the friggin “Dangerous Beast” outfit? The hardest part of even using her is going to be shielding your phone from view in public spaces.

Servant Data
Avenger
Avenger C

Increase the amount of NP you gain when damaged by 16%.
Decrease Debuff Resist for all allies (including sub-members)
except yourself by 6%. [Demerit]

Oblivion Correction B

Increase your Critical Strength by 8%.

Self-Restoration (Magical Energy) B

Increase NP Gauge each turn by 3.5% for yourself.

Independent Action B-

Increase your Critical Strength by 7.8%

Overview

Ah, the Avenger class, my long-term love. Even when you introduce a new SR Servant with the most defensive, and therefore worst, statline of your class, they’re still offensively stronger than almost every other servant in every other class. That 1.1x attack modifier is a godsend.

If it weren’t clear, Kuro Avenger has the highest HP and lowest Attack of her class and rarity, which is objectively not great for any Avenger that hopes to be offensive, but her statline is still great regardless simply because the Avenger class is that good.

And like all Avengers, she comes with a wonderful stack of passives to work with - the standard trinity of Avenger, Oblivion Correction, and Self-Restoration means she’s getting more NP gauge from being hit, more passively each turn for existing, and a neat boost to her Critical Damage output. Paired with that is Independent Action, which boosts that even further beyond, meaning right off the gates Kuro hits pretty damn hard if she crits.

Conclusion

So how is our resident Editor-in-Chief on the whole? Well on one hand, she’s ensuring our works get out before the deadline, and nobody hates delays:

In a rarity for 4* and below Servants, Kuro is a bona-fide 50%+ gauge charge support, even if it’s in a pretty unusual form. Typically she’ll provide a 60% gauge charge that can only be used on wave 3, on top of her minor offensive buffs, but even that much can be a godsend for those who are lacking in the far less accessible mega supports. And while you can utilize her in more complicated setups that use her formation switch skill to its max potential, functionally those are more effort than they’re actually worth. Simply for this alone she’s a very valuable option to consider.

As for her other mode, Kuro is a pretty solid Quick offensive Servant. Her NP’s damage output is actually surprisingly high, especially in drawn-out fights where you can build up her Manuscript stacks to their fullest potential, but she simply has excellent NP spam capabilities owing both to her superb stargen and NP gain and decent NP refund, meaning she can both take advantage of her her critical damage output and NP damage synergistically.

However, I’m honestly not too bothered on getting this MMM quickly, I’ll probably leave it for a week after the event expires so I can take it ea-HOLY HELL IS SHE BEHIND ME?!

While Kuro is solid at both ends of her kit, she runs into problems based on how she’s split between the two. As a support, her damage buffs are very poor, especially because her NP damage buff can’t even be used until wave 3 if you want to get her maximum gauge charge, and also the fact she has to use her gauge charger on wave 3 but also use her skills on wave 1 means she can’t simply be battlesuit swapped in or out of the field, so she locks down a party slot when used. The benefits of having a low-investment 60% gauge charger is still great, but it comes with a lot of caveats, including she fact she doesn’t really work for farming nodes which have multiple 1-2 enemy waves, especially for Buster Servants.

To be honest, it’s very weird to find out Kuro Avenger is a support disguised as a typical critical-damage focused damage dealer. While she can fill both roles, it’s hard for her to practically manage both sides at once, so she does have that annoying sensation of being torn between two niches.

Thankfully, she’s good enough at both aspects that she doesn’t suffer too badly for it. The Avenger class’s offensive capabilities and superb NP gain definitely helps with that, but her kit is pretty powerful on principle, and it shows in both her damage output and gauge charging capabilities.

While she’s certainly unconventional, there are few SR’s in the game that can claim the same supportive capabilities as Kuro, then again while being capable as an offensive Servant in the same package. As a result, she’s a very desirable addition to anyone’s roster. Rath™ Seal of Approval, with a recommendation.
