Christmas 2018 - Farming Servant Recommendations

Like all raffle/lottery events, Christmas 2018 is an incredibly rewarding occasion for all Fate Grand Order players looking to improve their teams or/and stock up a large number of resources for future use. The easily available Class skill gems are especially nice as they are painstakingly hard to farm normally. It is highly recommended for all players, veterans and new players alike, to participate heavily in this event. The supply of ascension materials, QP, skill gems and EXP cards in terms of AP spent is fantastic and will be sufficient for a long while.

Event Format

Christmas 2018’s event format is also quite easy and straightforward to farm. Discounting the first two difficulties that mainly serve as introductions, there are only a small amount of free quests. Additionally, unlike Nero Fest, the enemy composition of these quests don’t change with time. The bosses’ HP level are also comparatively lower than that of most events, even at the highest difficulty nodes, so even relatively weaker players can clear those with strong support Servants and a well-crafted team.

Event Freebies

As with most events, the priority for all players is to get the welfare Servant and Event Craft Essences as soon as possible. Jeanne d'Arc (Alter Santa Lily) is the only welfare Lancer Servant that players will get for a long while, and she is particularly useful for players that do not have premium AoE Lancers such as Karna or Altria (Alter) (Lancer). Not only she is a valuable farming Servant, but this cute Santa is also one of the only three Servants that grant a bonus to the amount of Fruit Cake - the golden drop of the event. The Event Craft Essence - Holy Night Supper has one of the best arts in the game, featuring the ever popular Jeanne d’Arc (Alter). However, that is not its best feature. By granting a 50% NP charge, 15% Critical Damage and 15% NP Damage, it is particularly useful for farming not only during this event but throughout the game for players without stronger Starting NP Craft Essences such as Kaleidoscope or alternative such as Golden Sumo.

Advice Regarding Event Bonus Servants

If there is a downside to this event, it would be that the amount of Servants that grant a bonus to currency drops is fairly low and the choices are quite limited. If Masters can craft a team that comfortably clears the nodes while packing a few of them, then it is recommended to bring them for the bonus and higher AP efficiency. However, many Masters either do not have these Servants, or cannot afford to bring them along due to Party Cost. In those cases it is better to go for a team that can consistently and safely clear the quest, and relying on a Friend Support to provide the drop bonus instead. Amakusa Shirou, Jeanne d’Arc (Alter Santa Lily), Ishtar are the three most valuable Servants in this aspect, as they provide a very valuable drop bonus to Fruitcakes, the gold material of this event, which is equivalent to having a 5 Star Event Craft Essence from the gacha.

As usual, there are several Servants that are useful in all or the majority of the farming quests during the event. Leveling them and/or having them as Support can be a considerable time-saver for players planning to farm a large number of materials during the event.

General Recommendations

Zhuge Liang (El Melloi II)		With Holy Night Supper granting 50% starting NP Gauge, Zhuge Liang is naturally the best possible ally to bring along. His ability to grant an ally 50% NP bar instantly means they get access to their Noble Phantasm immediately. For players with much weaker teams, he is still extremely valuable as his Defense buff can help them survive the bosses.
Mash Kyrielight		While Mash provides very little in terms of offensive power, her 0 Party Cost means she is quite valuable as a Craft Essence Holder. Furthermore, she has an innate drop bonus for Cheesecake during the event. Even if players' teams are strong enough to clear nodes, it is worth bringing her along to reduce the Party Cost burden.
Arash		There is one thing that all the Free Quests here have in common: They all feature a very weak first wave that Arash can blow up with his Noble Phantasm. With his third skill maxed, a 30/50% NP charge and a Zhuge Liang, Arash can potentially gain access to his Noble Phantasm on turn 1 while giving a Magical Stocking bonus. Since he dies after using his Noble Phantasm, he doesn't become dead weight and can instantly bring another ally from the backline into play. This can also enable many interesting strategies that can speed up the farming process tremendously. Being a 1 Star Servant, Arash is extremely easy to get from the Friend Point gacha, cheap to raise, and requires very little Party Cost. We highly recommend investing into Arash for basically every event, but this event especially so. Maxing his third skill is highly, highly recommended.
Minamoto-no-Raikou Lancelot Frankenstein Tamamo Cat		Holy Night Supper, and Zhuge Liang are a combination that make AoE Berserkers easier to use for farming by potentially granting these Servants instant access to their Noble Phantasm on Turn 1. While they are still very squishy, their damage output makes them effective Wave 2 clearers or even Wave 3 in some quests depending on their NP levels. However, between bulky enemies and Raikou possessing no trait bonus at all for the final Magical Stockings quest, they are a bit less effective than normal for the true farming quests.
Nitocris		What Arash can do, Nitocris can do as well. With a weak 1st wave, Nitocris can instantly raise her NP bar (requires rank 8 Rapid Words of Divine) and clear it. Any Instant Death shenanigans help but should not be relied upon. Do note that she is quite ineffective without her Noble Phantasm and may not contribute much against the last wave. Using the Chaldea Combat Uniform to switch her out for another ally is a great idea after she unleashes her AoE NP.
Helena Blavatsky Ozymandias William Shakespeare		Holy Night Supper grants a whopping 30-50% NP gauge at the start of the battle and by doing so also raises the stock of these Servants and their NP batteries significantly. Within the right setup (such as with the Chaldea Combat Uniform), they can speed up the farming process of the team by raising teammates’ NP bars with their skills. Amongst them, Ozymandias also has fantastic combat prowess and can more than hold his own in most nodes.
Sakata Kintoki (Rider) Chloe von Einzbern		Many of the Free Quests feature a powerful opponent in the second wave. Chloe and Kintoki, by virtue of their welfare NP5, and their up to 50% Np gauge boost, are amazing for speeding up the farming process. Generally, their neutral damage is irrelevant compared to the sheer power of an NP5.
Jeanne d'Arc (Alter)		With both a bonus to Shortcake, which appears the most often in Free Quests, and the Avenger class, Jeanne d'Arc Alter can be safely fielded to great effect. She's generally never entirely optimal in this event, but usually more than powerful enough.

Advanced is an easy difficulty for newer players to farm the necessary materials needed to initially get the Event Craft Essences / Jeanne d'Arc (Alter Santa Lily). It is quite easy as the only dangerous enemy is Tamamo Cat - a Berserker. Tamamo no Mae (Caster) deals no damage on her Noble Phantasm and can usually be left for last safely. The first two waves also have low HP, and don’t do notable damage. As such, try to bring as many of the Fruitcake bonus Servants as possible, as any single strong Rider is quite sufficient to farm this node effectively. Berserkers, Avengers or Assassins can also mop up the first 2 waves quickly.

Ishtar Amakusa Jeanne d'Arc (Alter Santa Lily)		This node should be straightforward enough to farm with a Fruitcake Bonus Servant, even for newer players.
Francis Drake		A Francis Drake can easily carry this node as her Noble Phantasm will deal significant damage to both Tamamo Cat and Tamamo no Mae. She also has strong neutral damage thanks to high Critical Star Weight and good Critical Star Generation, so she can clear the first two waves easily.
Ozymandias		Easily one of, if not the most complete Rider in the game at the moment. Ozymandias offers amazing team support and fantastic damage output in a two in one package. Thanks to Imperial Privilege's astronomical attack buff, he can handle the first two waves much faster than most Riders.
Sakata Kintoki (Rider)		While he does not have an AoE Noble Phantasm, his raw damage output, Star Generation and NP Generation are all top notch. A Kintoki Rider can carry any team through this node with ease.
Altria Pendragon (Santa Alter)		Santa Alter has more than enough damage to evaporate the last wave, but will need support to prep her NP bar even with Holy Night Supper equipped.
Mordred (Rider)		Mordred’s strong NP refund allows her to use Prydwen multiple times in a row with Arts supports. Even independently, it is not uncommon to see her cycle through her Noble Phantasm several times per battle.
Ushiwakamaru		Ushiwakamaru is the Free to Play Rider of choice for a lot of content. Her utility is decent and her NP damage is good enough to carry many players with smaller rosters.
Medusa Alexander		These two AoE Riders are quite easy to get for all players and provide the good AoE damage needed to take out both Tamamos. Medusa has the edge in terms of NP generation while Alexander provides better team support.

Similar to Advanced, this node heavily favors Masters with strong Riders. As the two versions of Zhuge Liang don’t do damage on their Noble Phantasm, they aren’t particularly dangerous. However, if they spam their Party Defense buffs, they will be quite the annoying. It's better to take them out sooner rather than later. The Chimera in the second wave can be daunting for newer Masters as it can deal strong Critical Damage. Try to prepare a strong single target Noble Phantasm or other on-demand damage to take it out immediately.

High Recommendation

Ishtar Amakusa Jeanne d'Arc (Alter Santa Lily)		If the difficulty is not a problem, simply borrow bonus Fruitcake Servants.
Francis Drake		Francis Drake is a great choice to handle the last two waves. Her AoE Noble Phantasm is well-suited for the third wave and her self-sufficiency in Critical Star generation makes her a fearsome single target damage dealer for the Chimera as well.
Ozymandias		Ozymandias not only has enough firepower to blow through the Chimera, but also the bulk to tank its hits thanks to Imperial Privilege. Furthermore, the NP charge on his Protection of Ra grants the entire party much earlier access to their Noble Phantasms.
Sakata Kintoki (Rider)		With his obscene damage output and NP generation, Sakata Kintoki is more than enough to take out the Chimera and the two Zhuge Liangs.

Mid Recommendation

Chloe von Einzbern Lancelot (Saber)		Chloe and Lancelot (Saber) are prime examples of Servant who can delete a target on-demand, either through an NP or with a vast infusion of critical prowess. Highly useful for deleting the only threat in this node: the Chimera.
Altria Pendragon (Santa Alter)		While she has a very powerful Noble Phantasm for the third wave, her single target damage output is not on the same level. Prepping her Noble Phantasm can prove difficult without Starting NP gauge Craft Essences or teammates that can function as NP batteries.
Ushiwakamaru		Thanks to being a Rider class with a strong Single Target Noble Phantasm, Ushi can deal significant damage to the Chimera or even outright kill it with her Noble Phantasm and still contribute in the last wave. Her problem is that it might be hard to get her Noble Phantasm ready in time before the second wave.
Iskandar		Iskander is quite similar to Santa Alter in terms of both strengths and weaknesses. His Charisma and naturally high attack will grant him some decent firepower to help the team against the Chimera as well.
Queen Medb		Queen Medb has some good team utility thanks to Charisma and her Charm. Her Noble Phantasm also hits very hard against Zhuge Liang thanks to class advantage and trait bonus. With Golden Rule (Body), she also has an easier time prepping her Noble Phantasm compared to other Riders.
Mordred (Rider)		She won’t be particularly effective against the Chimera due to lack of strong single target damage, but her Noble Phantasm spam is very strong for wave 3.

Anne Bonny & Mary Read		Their Noble Phantasm is extraordinarily powerful when at low health, which is a condition that the Chimera can help with setting up, albeit a bit reliant on luck. Nonetheless, they are a decent Rider for this node.
Marie Antoinette Saint Martha		Both are okay AoE Rider options that can offer some survivability against the Chimera for players with shallow rosters. They are both available from the starting summon pool so many new players have access to them. Marie can survive very well with her Invulnerability while Martha packs heal to keep up the party HP.
Alexander Medusa		Both of them are good F2P AoE Riders with decent Noble Phantasm and team utility.

Excellent for Cheesecake, but quite possibly the most troublesome quest to easily counter. This is mainly because of the enemy composition: the first two waves feature only Archer enemies while the bosses are Lancer and Saber Servants respectively. Both Altrias have a lot of bars in their NP gauge, so it will take a while for them to fire off their dangerous AoE Noble Phantasms.

A good way to get around this quest is to pack a good Lancer in the frontline for the first two waves, then potentially switch him/her out for a Saber Servant in the back line. Other solutions are to run Berserkers which are riskier due to their fragile nature, or Servants that are not affected by the Knight Classes’ triangle. That might slow down the farming process however.

Cu Chulainn (Alter)		Being a Berserker with good survivability, Cu Alter is the perfect solution for these types of quests. When equipped with the Event Craft Essence, Cu Alter has everything he needs to blow everything out of the way.
Mordred Siegfried		These two are the perfect Sabers to save for the third wave, thanks to their massive AoE Noble Phantasm that hit both the bosses for bonus damage. Mordred and Siegfried also have class advantage against Lancer Altria.
Jeanne d'Arc (Alter)		With both a bonus to Shortcake and her Avenger class providing a powerful answer to the diversity in this node, Jeanne d'Arc Alter is an excellent pick. She is still on the fragile side if the Gazer decides to unleash some critical hits, so try to support her properly and keep the tempo high.
Sakata Kintoki		Kintoki can have quickly have access to his Noble Phantasm thanks to Holy Night Supper and Animal Dialogue. This makes him a very competent Servant to take out the Gazer in the second wave and his raw damage should be enough to handle the other mobs. He is, however, particularly fragile and once he blows his Noble Phantasm on the Gazer, he will be a lot less effective in the last wave without teammates’ protection.

Heracles Ibaraki-Douji Vlad III		They are all good Berserker alternatives to Cu Chulainn Alter thanks to their strong damage and above average survivability.
Nightingale		She is best used alongside a strong Buster Servant but by herself, Florence is a decent damage dealer against humanoid enemies, which the two bosses of the nodes belong to. Her heal can also prove very useful for players with much weaker teams.

Mysterious Heroine X Jack the Ripper		This is one of the rare occasions where X can provide some good value. Her Star Generation and neutral damage are good assets for the first two waves and her Noble Phantasm hits both Saber Lily and Altria (Lancer Alter) for a good amount of damage thanks to the anti-Altriaface modifier. Jack is of a similar mold, but provides much better utility and overall better Critical Star and NP generation.
Lu Bu Fengxian		This disloyal hero’s raw power is only matched by his frailty. Lu Bu is a great F2P option for players without premium Berserkers, but requires a lot of maintenance and protection to function well.
Li Shuwen Kiyohime (Lancer) Elisabeth Bathory Jeanne d'Arc (Alter Santa Lily)		Decent Lancer options for the first two waves.
Altria Pendragon (Alter) Altria Pendragon Altera Ryougi Shiki (Saber) Gawain		AoE Saber alternatives to weaken the last wave.
Okita Souji Lancelot (Saber) Nero Claudius (Bride)		Single Target Sabers can also be good options to tackle the last wave. These Servants have great NP generation and thus can perform their Noble Phantasms multiple times throughout the fight, allowing them to heavily damage Saber Lily after focusing down Altria (Lancer Alter).

Due to this node having the best drop rate for Fruitcakes & Shortcakes, most players will spend the majority of time farming here before moving on to the last quest for Miracle Stocking farming. The node’s first two waves are fairly unremarkable as most enemies are Berserkers. The Ifreeta in the second wave does not hit particularly hard either, but has higher HP and can take a while to kill.

The tricky part of this quest is the third wave, where both versions of Gilgamesh have only three ticks on their NP bars and can hasten this process with their Golden Rule skill. Adult Gilgamesh can also hit very hard if he keeps spamming his Collector skill, while Kid Gil can be annoying with Charm. A strong Lancer is generally mandatory to clear this node quickly and safely multiple times.

Jeanne d'Arc (Alter Santa Lily)		Our new Santa is a fantastic choice for Gil-killing duty. Despite her adorable look, she packs quite a punch once players level her up and raise her Noble Phantasm level. She also provides a drop bonus for Fruitcake, which will increase the event currency yield per run.
Karna		Karna is born for these types of quests. His AoE Noble Phantasm hits extraordinarily hard on both versions of Gilgamesh due to their Divinity. Thanks to his third skill and innate good NP generation rate, Karna should have little problem prepping a devastating Vasavi Shakti in time for the third wave.
Tamamo-no-Mae (Lancer) Scathach		Both Lancers are amazing at one-shotting either Gilgamesh. Tamalancer has a considerable advantage in terms of NP generation and can quickly use her Noble Phantasm repeatedly with Craft Essences like Holy Night Supper, but her Anti-Male component lies in her Noble Phantasm. Scathach, on the other hand, has better burst and has better control over her bonus modifier in the form of a skill - God Slayer. She will generally not use her Noble Phantasm twice, but even a Brave Chain, when boosted by God Slayer, could take out either of the Gilgameshes, or both of them when her Noble Phantasm is available.
Altria Pendragon (Lancer Alter) Altria Pendragon (Lancer)		Both versions of Lancer Altria are fantastic AoE Lancer options for the last node. While their Noble Phantasms won’t do as much damage as Karna's will, they have their own distinct advantages as well. Lancer Alter has amazing burst potential with Protection of World's End, while the Lion King possesses an instant NP battery skill to quickly unleash her powerful Rhongomyniad.

Brynhild Li Shuwen Kiyohime (Lancer) Vlad III (EXTRA)		These are all good Lancer options if players do not have more suitable Lancers for the node.
Elisabeth Bathory		Of the remaining AoE Lancers, while Lizzie does not have necessarily strong AoE damage, her support is fantastic, especially when used in conjunction with female teammates.
Nikola Tesla Oda Nobunaga		With strong AoE Noble Phantasms that get bonus damage against Gilgamesh, they are acceptable fillers for teams that lack strong Lancers.
Cu Chulainn (Alter) Heracles Ibaraki-Douji		Being Berserkers, they provide great value throughout the quest and are effective against both the Ifreeta and Gilgameshes. Their durability thanks to their skill set allow them to be a safe pick even against dangerous bosses and can be very good flexible picks for any team.
Ishtar		Ishtar is still an offensive powerhouse, even if she does not have any class advantage. She grants a Fruitcake bonus however, which is always welcome.
Jeanne d'Arc (Alter)		Jeanne d'Arc (Alter)'s damage is excellent and a full chain should be sufficient to remove either of the Gilgamesh. Her bonus to Shortcake is nice too, but beware of her fragility.

Hektor		Despite his deceptively shabby appearance, Hektor’s Noble Phantasm hits quite hard for a 3 Star Servant. Being a lower rarity Servant has its perks too, as he takes a lot less effort and resources compared to gold Servants to raise and bring to battle.
Cu Chulainn (Prototype) Cu Chulainn		With Protection from Arrows they are extremely durable against both versions of Gilgamesh. While they likely won’t do as much damage as more offensive Servants, their survivability makes them a great backup for teams that cannot brute force through this quest reliably.
Amakusa		He won't die, but his neutral damage leaves a lot to be desired in a fight against Gilgamesh. His utility is still great, but his prime feature is the nice boost to Fruitcake!
Francis Drake		Being a Rider with strong AoE damage and great NP uptime, Drake can help shorten time spent on the Ifreeta considerably while also contributing plenty during the last wave.

Finally, we arrive at the quest that all players who want to stockpile a warehouse of materials will do repeatedly at the price of their sanity. As this node is the best drop for Miracle Stockings and Miracle Stockings only, establishing a team that can consistently clear it and, if possible, clear it fast is highly recommended to gather a sizable haul from this event. This quest’s enemy composition is straightforward. It highly favors Assassin Servants as both the Dragon in the 2nd wave and two out of three bosses in the last wave are Riders.

Santa Alter and Caesar require five and four charges respectively for a full NP gauge, and have no skills to raise their NP gauge. While their Noble Phantasms deal a lot of damage it will take a while for them to reach that point. Asterios can deal a lot of damage to anyone given he is a Berserker, but his Noble Phantasm does not deal any damage and he is quite fragile. The Dragon can pose a problem to teams that have a low amount of HP as it deals AoE damage with every attack and has a fairly big HP pool to tank hits.

In general, try to create a team that can delete the dragon in 1 turn while also fielding an AoE Servant to destroy or at least severely weaken, the final wave of Servants. There are no bonus Servants, so use whatever Servants are most powerful.

Scathach (Assassin)		One of the two welfare Assassins, our favorite teacher has a strong AoE Noble Phantasm well-suited for the last wave. Her single target damage output can be somewhat lacking compared to other Assassins but she makes it up with decent team utility via her Taunt and heal. With critical hits and a whole slew of buffs, it is possible for her to clean the final wave in one turn.
Cleopatra		Being the premier AoE Assassin, with fantastic single target damage output and an amazingly self-sufficient skill set, Cleopatra is one of the best Servants for this quest.
Jack the Ripper		Thanks to her absurd NP generation rate, Jack should have no problem using her Maria the Ripper several times throughout the quest, making her a great choice to tackle the Dragon, Caesar, and Santa Alter all at once. Her Noble Phantasm even has a huge damage increase against Santa Alter, sometimes capable of one-shotting this grumpy Santa before she can even muster her Excalibur Morgan.
Ryougi Shiki (Assassin)		With her trusty knife and Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, this lady kills everything standing in her way indiscriminately. Shiki might be a bit more fragile, but her single target damage output and NP generation are both fantastic, making her a staple in many teams that lack stronger Assassins. Shiki is an excellent pick to take out the dragon in a single turn.
Sakata Kintoki (Rider) Chloe von Einzbern		Do not let the lack of class advantage be a hindrance! These two Servants are very useful for removing the dragon in a single turn while carrying a 50% NP gauge boost.
Arash Nitocris		Both Arash and Nitocris can instantly wipe out the first wave of enemies. Cherish them, use and abuse them. They will cut down the clear speed significantly, provided the team has options for the Dragon and final wave. Paracelsus could prove an interesting budget option as well, given his 80% NP gauge boost and AoE NP.

Mysterious Heroine X		Very similar to Jack except with slightly worse NP and Star Generation rate and a horrid skill set. Nonetheless, her raw damage output is quite strong and her Noble Phantasm is extra effective against Santa Alter.
Mordred		Mordred can deal some excellent damage courtesy of her anti-Altria bonus on NP. Her lack of class advantage might not even be too much of a problem, providing she can be buffed adequately to sweep the final wave. A nice NP gauge boost in her skill set doesn't hurt either.
Shuten-Douji		Shuten has good NP generation rate and an AoE Noble Phantasm. Her debuffs bring a good amount of support to the table, but her damage output is somewhat lower compared to stronger Assassins.
Carmilla		The budget Jack the Ripper, as a much weaker Anti-Female Assassin. Nonetheless, Camilla has one of the highest NP generation rates in the game, even amongst fellow Assassins, and can deal serious damage over time while sustaining herself with Phantom Maiden. With NP upgrades, a decent pick for removing the Dragon considering her Vampirism.
Cu Chulainn (Alter) Sakata Kintoki Heracles Ibaraki-Douji		These are all good filler options for teams that lack strong Assassins. Do note that due to the Dragon dealing AoE damage they might fall more easily if it isn't dealt with quickly.

Emiya (Assassin)		Kerry is a tough fellow to utilize well, but his damage is decent and he is still a 4 Star Assassin. His Taunt can be quite useful to redirect enemies’ attention toward a teammate that wants to or can afford to take hits for the team.
Siegfried		Much like Mordred, Siegfried has access to bonus damage as well against Santa Alter as well. At NP1 his damage isn't too interesting, but he scales hard. For Masters with multiple NP upgrades, Siegfried is a viable option for sweeping the final wave.
