Regarding Grand Servants

Mkay. So I’m sure you all see where I’m going with this. SPOILERS for anyone who hasn’t gotten past the London Singularity. Please answer and read with caution haha

Merlin, Solomon, King Hassan

We know these three servants to, in fact, be the Grand Casters/ Grand Assassin. We also know that the title needn’t be given to a single servant but rather any servant powerful enough to be considered as a candidate.

With that in mind- without spoilers to the future story obviously- out of all current, future, and possible Heroic Spirits, who of them all could fill the remaining spots for Grand Servants?

I guess....
Saber : Artoria/Arthur ( simply because she is the cash cow of TM )
Archer : Gilgamesh far exceeds the current Archer roster greatly so him
Lancer : Enkidu/Brynhild/Karna
Rider: Uncle Man since he basically took Brynhild, Atrash,Arthur and Dr.P to beat him in a VERY narrow defeat and thats after Serenity cut off his mana source.
Berserker : The current Berserker roster doesnt seem very strong lorewise, the strongest of them would most likely be BASAKA WA DARE NI MO MAKENAI SEKAI DE ICHIBAN TSUYOI DAKARA

Very good guesses! A lot of people think that the Grand Saber is Arthur Proto due to his Bonus against massive enemies and the fact that he’s hunting Beast VI

I think it has to be Artoria or Arthur. Altera would also qualify but I’m pretty sure she’s flagged as a threat to humanity since she’s a foreign existence

Gilgamesh would be the likely suspect due to his abilities but I also feel like he would’ve boasted about it at some point by now.
My best guess for Grand Archer is Phoebus Apollo. At least, the version of him from when he was only a Demi-God (They did the same for Heracles so who knows) OR Archer Heracles who’s considered to be the strongest of all archers by Nasu

Lancer’s hard. I feel like it’d have to come down to either Brynhild or Karna on this one. But Scathach also makes sense

Rider... Ozymandias is a good choice but others have pointed out Ghengis Khan or even Neil Armstrong (who’s actually been confirmed as a Heroic Spirit too) would make sense as well

Berserker...No clue haha. Heracles would also fit well but I feel like they’d reserve the titles of Grand Servants for SSRs and thus automatically eliminates him despite the fact that he’s comparable to an SSR

Only one servant can hold the title of Grand Servant, no? The others like Merlin and Gilgamesh caster are just candidates.

I think the one that will fill the Grand Saber position are either Artoria or Arthur. After all, the legend of King Arthur is the most popular legend of sacred sword.

Can't say about the other class because i don't have many knowledge about history. Though the legend of Heracles is also a famous one, people said his best class is archer so i don't know. Many people would like Sun Wukong as the Grand Lancer or Genghis Khan as the Grand Rider, but it's up for DW to give us a surprise.

True. But the World can choose to substitute them. Merlin is on call as Grand Caster despite not necessarily being the one who holds the title at this moment

I’m inclined to agree. Artoria makes the most sense but, then again, Musashi and Sigurd are also renowned for their abilities with the sword and are immensely powerful as well

Up

Down

Yeah, i also prefer Musashi over Artoria, but for real though, Excalibur's popularity is crazy high. It's like the name for most strong magical sword in games, movies, or books nowadays. Kind of overused, just like how people use Lancelot's name a lot over other knights of the Round Table.

Up
0
Down

Well it’s not even that. True Musashi is the better swordsman but Excalibur exceeds all other swords when it’s at its full power.

In the lore, Excalibur and Avalon work as a team. Excalibur, with all 13 Seals broken is equivalent to a Divine Nuke, and Avalon heals any wound inflicted on the wielder as long as Excalibur is near it

It’s not Skill that determines it as much as the sword. Excalibur is the most powerful and the most recognizable.

Bear in mind I don't have any explicit sources for any of this, but based on what I know,

Saber: Musashi - Japan's most legendary swordsman. Maybe Okita too, but I don't think she's as revered in lore as Musashi.
Archer: Gil (just cos fate seems to have a habit of hyping him and his OP-ness)? Or Heracles
Lancer: Scathach maybe? She killed a god so she's gotta be good right?
Rider: Ozymandias or maybe Quetzalcoatl since she's basically a god
Berserker: Does this class even have a grand title attached to it? If so the best I can think of at the moment is Raikou, she's pretty strong lore-wise.

Up
0
Down

True. Raikou would be a strong candidate for Grand Berserker but I feel like Grand Berserker would be much more akin to a wild beast. Like almost completely mindless IMO.

Grand Saber has gotta be either Artoria, Musashi, or Sigurd

Archer: Demigod Phoebus Apollo. He eventually became the patron of archery and slew the Python as a mortal man

Lancer: Scathach, Brynhild, or Karna (but I do like the idea of Wukong as well)

Rider: ozy, or Odysseus, or Neil Armstrong, or Genghis Khan

SO MANY CHOICES

If we can qualify gods as a Grand Servants

What about Susanoo-no-Mikoto? If there was ever a god that could qualify as a Berserker, it’d be him.

Up

Yeah that's true. Off the top of my head, I really can't think of any other gods that could fit as a beserker

Ruzeron brought up Thor who works well too. Considering that the concept of Berserkers is Nordic in origin, it’d be appropriate

Up

Yeah, and now that you mention it, I'm surprised we don't have more Nordic servants. There are quite a few famous ones too.

Oh yeah good call, completely forgot about that one lol, I was thinking of historical figures more than literature

Also, isn't Siegfried German?

Up

Down

Yep. He’s arguably Germany’s most recognizable hero internationally

Wukong and Genghis I could really get behind! As famous as King Arthur is, I never got the impression that Artoria was particularly impressive lore-wise in fate. She seems to be on even footing with just about everyone she fights, or at least she's portrayed that way in all the media I've seen. Maybe with Avalon? I've heard that's pretty overpowered.

Lol @ rider Neil Armstrong, riding in a spaceship

Also isn't Tamamo supposed to be pretty unbelievable with 9 tails? I read somewhere that she's "evil" in that state so idk, would that fit the requirement of "berserker?"

And just gotta say, slightly annoyed that Karna is so much stronger than Arjuna in fate lore, since in the Mahabharata it's pretty heavily implied that Arjuna was the superior of the two. If we went by actual myth though, any Indian hero would probably be leagues above most others so w/e lol

Well, Artoria can heal from any wound with Avalon. Basically immortal with it. It’s why Merlin was frustrated when she told him that she thought Excalibur was more valuable

Excalibur is being suppressed by 13 Seals. Fully unleashed, it could destroy a Beast or even a Type-like entity like Sefar in a single strike.

Arthur Proto uses his Excalibur with roughly 6 Seals unlocked, Artoria uses hers with only 3-4 unlocked to my knowledge

It’s considered by some to be “a sword forged for God”

Up
0
Down

Oh man, never realised it was supposed to be that good. Then she's definitely a strong contender.

Up
0
Down

They underplay it. What they don’t tell you is that, unlike Arthur Proto, Artoria can fully unlock hers at any time but rather she chooses not to (Unleashing the full might of Excalibur within a city would most likely destroy the city in the process). Some people argue that Artoria having the Seals is only canon in FGO but it’s likely that she had them the entire time

Keep in mind that she’s acknowledged many times as “The Greatest of All Sabers”. It could be exaggeration but her full legend makes her ungodly powerful. Her only limitation is that she no longer has Avalon

Up
0
Down

Yeah, they do acknowledge that a lot. I always just assumed it was just to sound cool or something :/

Up
0
Down

Nope. Excalibur is called the Sword of Promised Victory because the sword can kill anything that’s not a God and the scabbard can heal any wound

Whoever wields the sword and scabbard together becomes something similar to a god

I'm actually of Indian ethnicity myself and have read both legends (Mahabharata and Ramayana). I actually think the fate portrayal is more interesting and more right on the money. On first read, the Pandavas (Arjuna and his 4 brothers) are played out to be the typical good guys to be rooted for who can basically do no wrong despite showing sides of themselves that are entirely human and not so virtuous. Arjuna himself is the world's best student and best pure Archer (but even there, read the story of Eklavya) while being somewhat of an arrogant self focused man. Type moon's depiction is pretty close in that regard, even though their art is somewhat generic.

Karna on the other hand has one of the saddest stories in the Mahabharata. He is the unclaimed first son of Kunti (mother of the Pandavas) and thus in fact the oldest brother, even though he is unacknowledged. His entire story is kind of about wanting to be acknowledged by the brothers in all their respective areas of expertise but more likely wanting to be acknowledged as an equal by them. He's more of a jack of all trades as well, even though his most famous descriptions have him as an Archer. Again I think type moon got his personality spot on. And the art is even better. Those chariot wheels on his frame alude to his death probably. Dude was literally sniped by Arjuna while he was fixing his chariot (ok it's more detailed than that but that is the gist of the fight ending).

It's something similar to their Arthur Pendragon romanticization as well as Mordred. Making Arthur a woman is a unique take on the story that does make a lot of things about how often and how Arthur is mentioned in legend make sense. Things such as how little he goes to quest or is mentioned in his own legend (the stories are always more about his knights' actions than his own). Mordred as well. Mordred in the legend is seen as this broken child of a man with yandere eyes who the world broke so he wants nothing more than to break it back. Putting a Moe face on it like they did with Mordred makes it more relatable in a way, adds more innocence to it.

I need to read up on the Mahabharata. I’ve read a general overview of it but it doesn’t really do such an epic story justice. Despite the fact that Karna is the son of Surya, I find myself sympathizing with him more as I learn more about the story. I mean, from what I’ve heard, both heroes fully intended to kill the other but even so, Karna’s death seems more like a murder than a heroic battle.. Even still, the heroes of Indian heritage are easily some of the more fascinating heroes that I’ve come to learn a little bit about

It’s the same with Sigurd. They romanticize his story in Grand Order. Sigurd in the stories was kind of a dick. Granted, he lost his memories and he was being manipulated by a cruel, vindictive woman but he still in turn lied to and manipulated Brynhild- a figure who’d suffered quite a lot already. To some extent, his murder at her hands seemed more like the tides of karmic justice coming full circle.

The true legends of heroes are always far crueler than they’re depicted in game.

Okay grand servants, right?
Saber: Gund--I mean charlemagne well duh. Joyeuse is overpowered that shoots things and is equal to Excalibur and Arthur is based on him apparently.
Archer: Herc or Gil, those two. Herc will win though due to King's order. Warning it's a Spoiler.
Lancer: Scat or Wu Kong or Pseudo Servant Odin.
Rider: God there are tons...not leaning to anyone. I mean basically a rider known to match the legends of Solomon, so...dunno maybe Noah?
Assassin: Only King Hassan could be. I mean defeating a warrior undefeated under the sun??
Berserker: Pseudo servant Thor.
Avenger: Pandora, duh, she could release all the world's evils literally as if it was nothing.
Yeah I'm cheating adding gods and stuff hahaha they're the only ones who has legends known enough to match Solomon who could summon 72 demon gods though.

Nice!

Plus Charlemagne has been confirmed as a playable character in Fate/Extella Link which means he’ll almost definitely come to Fate Grand Order

True Heracles has been the strongest contender for Archer so far and Nasu may have even confirmed it tbh

Noah’s an interesting choice. He makes sense. He even has a magical vessel from the Age of Gods.

I WAS THINKING OF THOR TOO YOOOO

Pandora makes so much sense. She’s the only hero wronged more than Edmond Dantes and possibly the only one more famous as well

Ruler? Literally any of the great Kings could be this one. But a few of them qualify as Savers instead

Up

Dunno ruler's bases are weird though. A detective, a samurai young man calling himself saint, and two women who are holy.
So basically those who are saviors of humanity is Saver and the like and holy men are rulers being observers of the god. Or the like dunni
PS got those from Prisma illya yes I know I'm already in jail xD

Up

Oh man, I completely forgot Sherlock Holmes was a ruler....

Are there any specific guidelines to what qualifies as ruler? He seems to be the odd one out

The specific requirement for being a saver is that they must have been a messiah.

Up
0
Down

Dunno to judge people lol. But it is weird. I don't think I've read about rulers having a qualification or something, so yeah.
Judging the sins of people or something, I guess.

Up

People said that the qualifications of being a ruler are :

1. A Saint. So far most of them are Christian Saints, because apparently the Holy Grail is a Christian artifact. Sherlock is the only exception because of irregularity.

2. Must not have any desire for the Grail. The only reason why Sherlock is in this class.

Up
0
Down

Very true. Karl De GroBe, the true inspiration of Charlemagne, is the newest Ruler and he’s also a Roman Catholic

So far, every Ruler save for Sherlock has been a Christian. While most of them don’t covet the Holy Grail, some do. Amakousa proved that by going after the Grail in Apocrypha. Also, one of Charlemagne’s more unbelievable legends is connected to the Holy Grail and the Spear of Destiny.

Up

They very specifically lead I guess. Like they don’t save. But they do kind of oversee the conflicts and strife that occur throughout human history from what I gather. They’re literally just humans that were pivotal leaders in history

It still does not explain why Sherlock is there lmao. I guess making him a Caster would seem too much like a cop out so they just stuck him in the only other place where a Lawful-Good Servant can do or use anything

Ruler really is hard to pin down

Tbh creating the Saver class is what screwed the Paradigm. All Rulers can be classified as Savers and all Savers can be classified as Rulers

Up

I always just thought of savers as rulers who are allowed into the VIP section lol

Always thought they're men that ascended to godhood or something.

If that were the case, Artemis and Heracles would be Savers and not Archer/Berserker respectively as they both went through Apotheosis

Up

Right. Like Buddha (again, very ironically) is OP. Savers are specifically Messiahs but, I think, they would also qualify as contenders for Grand Ruler

I wonder why no one mentioned ROMA DE ARU as Grand Lancer yet. He is a literal GOD with a high level of Divinity. He’s pretty damn strong too, in fact the strongest Roman servant lorewise and most of the Roman servants are pretty strong

Up

Yeah, I always completely forget about him since he's barely brought up in FGO. It's a shame he doesn't match his real potential in the game.

Up

Even Nasu said that FGO didn't do him right. Roma deserves better.

Up

BTW, was he always a walking broken record in the lore? If so, it kinda makes him seem more like a joke character than someone we should be taking seriously : /

Up

He needs some more character development in one of the Lostbelts since Septem ruined everything imo

Up

Saber : Artoria/Arthur with avalon and a no sealed sword
Archer : I will go with Herc because he seams to be so powerful in that class.
Lancer : Wukong for sure.
Rider: I will go for Quetzalcoatl
Assassin: King Hassan
Berserker: Arcueid Brunestud (Archetype:Earth), she is perfect and for this rol also.

Up
0

Using the Crimson Moon’s almost ideal reincarnation as a Berserker....that’s pretty brazen for sure. Worthy of the title of Grand Berserker. After all, if gods can be Grand Servants, I don’t see why Archetype: Earth couldn’t be one

Also I’m pretty sure the only reason that K. Zelretch Schweinorg isn’t Grand Saber (or Caster?) is that he isn’t dead

Dude literally repelled the moon RIP
