Would you rather have one SSR servant with a high NP level or a lot of SSR and SR servants with just NP1?
I ask this because an acquaintance of mine wants to “trade accounts” with me. He wants my NP2 Archuria, and he’s offering me a Jalter, Archuria NP1, TamaLancer, KiyoLancer, Martha Ruler, Herc and some other servants. I’m enticed by the idea of having more gold servants, but I’m also skeptical on why he’d give them up for mine. Is there something he knows that I don’t? Or is this an amazing deal I’m just not understanding?
Maybe Archuria is his waifu??

That’s a good point. A bigger spread of servants would definitely let me tackle a lot of challenges the game will throw at me. Thank you for your input!
It's a collection game so it makes more sense to have multiple SSRs at np 1 than one at np5. Squirtle is just one of the servants that does in some sense make the game supremely easy. Maybe your friend is just being nice?
Hmm, I see. You make a good point. This is probably a dumb question again , but can a NP 1 Squirtle still do the NP spam and challenge quests I hear about? I don’t completely understand overcharges and all that. All I know is that NP2 does more damage..?
Yes. Np 2 is stronger than NP 1 but at NP 1, you can still do NP spam. Overcharges are just added effects once you have the NP gauge at 100%, 200% etc.
Np2 does 300% more damage since it is an arts np. But as for the real reason people want np2 ("hurr but I can use the heal skill and np on the same turn with np2 durr") the odds of you having to heal on a np turn are miniscule and it's still a good talent considering how good her np gain is to begin with. 10% is nothing. And yea she still does the np spam just fine even at np1.
The way her overcharge works is the more overcharge you have the greater the amount of Mana restored on completion of the np (it's still not a big difference, at 200% it's ~46% np restored vs ~41% at 100%)
Hmmm... I guess I’m really not losing out by trading am I? He wants my NP2, and I get a whole bunch of servants. Plus nobody had really pitched for the higher NP side... so maybe I really should take him up on it! :o
Altria's NP2 overcharge gives a higher NP refund after use, but her base NP gain + hitcounts are so good she doesn't really need it. Plus, the extra effort needed to get her to 200% overcharge arguably makes that not worth it.
Personally, I want as many SSRs and SRs as I can get. I mean, there are many that I’m not all that interested in but there are a lot that I do want
The late game pushes players to build efficient, high functioning teams. So having many is the preferred/ideal outcome. That doesn’t just go for SSRs and SRs but, rather, all servants in general
Plus some events give bonuses on just specific servants so the more you have, the more chances of winning the game, I guess? And more waifus.
True. Having many servants is a godsend for a lot of events
Just look back at the Summer events. Each Servant had a certain bonus for farming. In order to farm with max efficiency in those events, you’ll need a wide variety of servants (and event CEs obviously) but still. Servants make up the bulk of what you need in those cases
That’s very true. Even in the Prisma Illya event, the first big thing I’ve done in this game, I was scanning my friend’s lists constantly for “that one servant that beats this class” to clear the events. If I had more servants, not only could I be better equip to play the game, I could more functionally make teams to counter the challenges!
Right. A wide variety of factors are at work in those events. Class advantage, Gender, Historical background, DPS or Support, AOE or ST, Buster/Arts/Quick, and team synergy
There are a lot of factors that aren’t even apparent from the start. Such as Arturia’s Dragon Affinity or the fact that Emiya takes more damage from Brynhild because he carries the Brynhild’s Beloved trait
All of these things are important- thus why servant variety is imperative
I would rather have more different SRs/SSRs. Personally, the game gets boring if I just use the same few servants all the time. Also, not having strong servants of different classes/niches makes the game more difficult since you struggle with things that are strong against the few NP5s you do have, plus, different servants get rate-ups for events so having more is always best.
I see where you’re coming from. :o I’ve only been playing for a while, so I’m thankful for every servant I’ve gotten so far, but there may very well be a time where I need to shake things up a bit, and watch a different animation set while farming a quest for the 100th time. I’ll keep this in mind! Thank you!
Depends. Most players want to collect servants. But I just want to save materials for beloved and most reliabled servants. That is why I have 3 level 1 SSRs but never level them up.
Meanwhile, more NP defiantly means more strength. Arturia`s unique 2nd skill make her works better as NP2, and unlike critical buster teams, art oriented Servant are more replying on their NP damage. And Arturia is one of best archer, so.
What other viable servants do you have on your account though? Is Archuria literally the only servant you have worth using? Just asking because while it *would* be cool to gain a Jalter and a Tama lancer, you really can't overlook the fact that you'd be losing some of what Archuria does best.
The general answer to your question is "yes, it's usually better to have more SSRs instead of a higher NP SSR". However, your situation is special, and it's not quite as cut and dry.
The reason is because Archuria's main strength is the fact that she can spam her NP super often. So if you reduce the power of her NP, you're basically reducing the one thing that makes her special and worth using. And since she is a limited servant, it's not like you can just easily get more of her later. Meanwhile, some of the other servants that your friend has can be obtained at any time, or in the near future, or you can get comparable servants any time or in the near future.
I know that my opinion seems to be an unpopular one in this thread, and I'm not saying that you *shouldn't* trade. I'm just saying that, to me, it seems to be a bit less of a no-brainer than most of these other people are indicating, so you should give it some careful thought before you choose. If we were talking about some other servant that doesn't rely so heavily on their NP, the trade would be a no-brainer. If we were talking about a servant that isn't limited, then it would be a no-brainer. But we're talking about a limited servant, who is pretty much the best at what she does (which happens to be 100% reliant on the strength of her NP).
Nah you're right. And it's mostly the 300% extra np damage more than anything else on a servant that wants to get most of her damage out of her np. Just I think for a majority the game is less about gameplay and more about collection with optimal gameplay being a side thing. This could 100% be because we have yet to get very challenging content
Aye, I can't argue with that. The collection part is definitely the most fun part of these types of games for me. But then on that note, I'd personally have to do some thinking about whether or not being handed some extra SSRs that someone else summoned would really scratch that itch for me.
Like, earlier today, I got a bit curious about how much FGO accounts sell for and such, so I did a quick Google search and discovered that you can buy accounts with quite a few SSRs on them for pretty cheap (compared to the cost of buying saint quartz and summoning them yourself, I mean). I honestly started kicking around the idea of buying an account in the near future, but then I quickly vetoed that idea because I realized that that would be less fun for me. Even though my main account has E-rank luck, and I'll probably never be able to get those servants on my own, it's still fun to try.
It's kind of like when I collected Pokemon cards as a kid. There was nothing more fun than getting my hands on a booster pack and finding out what was inside. If someone had just handed me a binder with all 151 Pokemon in it, I probably would have gotten bored with Pokemon cards within a week.
But that's just me. Everyone probably has their own feelings about that type of thing.
I feel exactly the same way. There's something personal about things (in this case servants) you've collected, spent time with, helped grow and grown with that just getting something readymade from someone else doesn't achieve.
First of all, thank you for taking time to really flesh out answer on my question. I honestly appreciate it. <3
To follow up a bit on your reply though, my team mainly consists of three servants at the moment. I have Archuria, Chloe, and Illya. (Also Siegfried and Nightingale, but they’re not as developed.) I haven’t traded yet, but I’ve been casually proding him for answers on why he’s so keen on my very basic team. According to him, he rambled on about how he has all these ideas to use the NP2 Archuria in all this future content, (much like we’ve talked about here) and how he also has interest in my Illya, as he wasn’t able to roll her at all after spending $300 worth of SQ.
In short maybe this is me weighing Illya against all those summer servants? I do like her, she’s adorable~ but he seems to weigh her a lot higher. :o
He's weighing her higher as she is limited probably just like Squirtle is. It's decent value for a trade but can you really part with servants you've invested time into and grown with? :)
That’s the real question isn’t it? ;w;
I’m a brand new player, and I don’t know the weight behind any of the moves I make in battle or the decisions to roll on banners. He’s been around since at least Jalter, so it’s why I came running to this group discussion for advice because sinc day one, people have been so incredibly helpful. It’s been a very humble beginning, and the banners have been very kind to me and this account... so is it worth trading for a arguably more diverse team? What a touch choice! xD
He’s given me up to the day before Illya banner’s end to decide, and if I decline he’s gonna drop more money for quartz for Illya. He’s truly dedicated, haha~
No problem at all. I don't always know how much my advice is really worth, but I certainly don't mind giving it.
But it sounds like you actually have more SSRs than your friend does (Archuria x2, Nightengale, and Illya make 4 vs your friend's 3). Also, we should have a Jalter banner coming up pretty soon, so you might still be able to get her. If you don't trade, you might be able to still get your own Jalter next month, or whenever the banner will be. But if you *do* trade, you won't be able to get another Illya probably ever, and you won't have another shot at getting Squirtle to NP2 for another year. As far as Tamamo Lancer goes, she also won't be available for another year, so if you really want her, then it might be worth it, but it's not like there aren't any other good Lancers with large oppai.
Admittedly, Nightengale and Illya are lower tier SSRs than Jalter and Tama, but it's not like they are useless. In fact, they have pretty decent synergy together. Nightengale's buster boost could amp up the damage on Illya's NP, and her debuff removal can remove the demerit from Illya's NP. Plus Nightengale's arts cards could help form arts chains with Illya's, and her buster cards could form buster chains with Illya's NP.
I wouldn't really sweat the SRs that you mentioned. Kiyo lancer is great, but she's redundant if you already have Tama (or vice versa). Herc is great too, but he's not exclusive and you very well might end up with a herc or two of your own in the near future, plus there are other decent berserkers in the game. You have a 20% chance to roll *something* that's SR or above, whether it's a CE or a servant, every single summon, so you will surely get plenty of your own SRs over time.
In terms of gameplay, Squirtle at NP2 is pretty nice and you can use her in most situations. In terms of exclusivity, your account wins imo. So if I were you, I probably wouldn't trade. But that's only my opinion.
On a side note, if you are F2P, and you really just started playing recently, it sounds like you have had pretty good luck with your SSR rates. I know that this makes me sound paranoid or something, but I personally believe that your luck is tied to your account. Like, not superstitiously, but literally programmatically tied to your account. I'm not gonna write my essay long reason here, but I recently posted about it, so feel free to check it out if you're curious. That being the case, just based on the fact that you seem to pull SSRs a lot, and your friend is having to throw down hundreds of dollars and still can't get the SSR that he wants, I wouldn't want to trade my lucky account for his unlucky one. But this is, of course, my opinion.
I read your whole thread, and that’s a really interesting concept you have there! (also no no thank you really for writing all that you write. It’s a joy to read and you’re giving me incredible insight I don’t have as a new player!)
If we were to assume this is a plausible truth and a reason why I have been as lucky as I am, this is something to consider as if it was part of the account itself. As for my quartz, I’ve only ever spent $40 on this account so far— there’s a tier that equals this in Da-Vinci’s shop. Between free quartz and the ones I paid for, I have what I have. I had a good feeling ever since I got Siegfried for my free roll! Another unpopular opinion haha, but I actually like him. Everyone told me to burn him, but I actually wanted him, and he came. :D
Plus he’s Siegfried. He’s easily one of the greatest Dragon Slayers of all time. Lore-wise, he’s one of the coolest Sabers for sure.
My first 4* was EMIYA and people had a rough opinion about him too before his buffs came out (his animations are awesome but he didn’t offer much as an Archer) even though Kurt is the superior Archer (and I’ll still use her a lot) EMIYA’s still my go-to for sure
I don't understand the rough opinions of emiya either (also my tutorial SR). Between him and David I was able to easily deal with any saber problem.
Of course I don't agree with several of the tiers, like von hohenheim who was pretty much rated low only due to high skill cool down. But I find him quite fun to play with. Him and medea were pretty much my only casters until my luck finally changed and I rolled da Vinci.
Right. EMIYA’s always been a consistent Archer for me. I would take him into any Saber battle and feel confident. We’re one strengthening of two in as it stands and he’s only getting better.
Speaking as someone who has a ton of gold servants, (like 30 or so and somehow I managed it without whaling. Witchcraft??) I can tell you that having a ton of SR and SSR servants makes your formations really versatile and your friend points go through the roof.
That being said, I wouldn't trade accounts if I were in your position. Too much possibility of drama and you dont get the pleasure of shrieking like a small child when you get a good summon. Also, it's possible he might just be planning to device switch the account immediately after he gets your code and leave you hangin'. What he's offering is nowhere close to an even trade and it sounds fishy. Honestly I'd say just buckle down and save quartz and tickets til a good banner comes up or just hit story summon like it owes you money when you have enough. That's how I got all mine. Plus the friend point trick.
I agree. When you have a massive variety of servants like some of us, teams and combos are versatile and interesting. That being said,
A. Jeanne Alter will be back not too long from now if you want to try and get her.
B. Account selling/trading can be dangerous in that one party has to go first and the other can always renege on their end.
Your servants are good and you seem to have some luck when it comes to the banners. I personally wouldn’t do it either.
Believe it or not, the one servant that has be wondering isn’t the infamous Jalter, but Kiyohime! I’ve always liked her design be it the normal Beserker or the Lancer version. That’s probably one of the biggest unpopular opinions! xD
But I do hear what you guys are saying, and I’m considering it all thoroughly. Luckily enough I know he can’t renege me because he’ll literally be standing right in front of me when we do it... but even so, this is something to really think about. Whatever I decide to do, I know I’ll make the decision I’m most happy with, and that’s the most important because I want to keep on playing and enjoying this game! These few weeks and this community has proven that much to be true. :D
I actually feel you on the Kiyo Lancer thing. She is a good lancer, her character design is nice, and I think that some of her voices are pretty funny. I don't know why, but it cracks me up every time she happily yells "Stalking!!!" before she attacks something. But I also think I might be a yandere-con or something. All that the summer banner gave me was her and Anne Bonny, but I was pretty content. I think I heard that there will be a re-run of the summer event next year though, so you can still get her, it will just be a while.
That’s good to know. As long as you know you’ll get the account, then everything should be alright. Kiyohime’s a cool character and we all like who we like
