Does anyone else really just want to play FGO?

AP sucks.

I really wish I could just play. I get that mobile games try to push purchasable time, but as an old-timey console gamer, AP/Energy mechanics in mobile games really irritate me.

I love FGO, especially since I started getting a team I enjoy. I just wanna play it.

yeah i agree. its more like a real rpg than most mobile games so its quite jarring having the ap mechanic. as opposed to most mobile games which i see as something to do in line at the store or on a bus ride where i will undoubtedly not use all my ap, i could actually enjoy playing fgo for extended periods of time, but it doesnt allow it

Especially with high-tier stuff.

When I was leveling, it was always difficult to gauge how much AP I would have versus how much AP it would take to do things. I expected this to go down as I accrued more max AP.

How wrong I was.

I have over 130 AP, and I only get to play for fifteen minutes (3x 40AP embers or QP farms or something) and then I have to wait for literally 10 hours before I can play for 15 more minutes.

yeah its pretty bad. the game has a good system, but the amount you can actually play in a day is ridiculous. you cant accomplish anything meaningful in a day for the most part

I have shamelessly bought quartz for the sole purpose of AP recharge. When I want to progress through something, I power through it. AP recharges so damn slowly.

I'd buy FGO to eliminate AP. Not even joking. Gacha and all.

I'd even settle for AP that shows up for events but doesn't affect your dailies or free quests.

Edit: That brings up a valid point.
"Free quests" shouldn't have AP values. They're "Free." Change the name or GTFO.

yeah im fairly new still and i was dissappointed when i learned about the "free" quests.

speaking of which there does really need to be some "free mode" even if it doesnt give you anything. puzzles and dragons is a popular mobile game with a ap system but they have a free dungeon where you can go to just test stuff out. i would really like that in fgo. to just get the chance to play with my favorite characters and test out strategies and stuff even if theres no drops or whatever

I've done that for other games, but on this game, an AP refill doesn't really feel valuable enough to pay for. A dollar just to repeat the same quest 3 more times is too stingy.

A compromise I've thought could work is if they halved the AP values of everything. Generally I need about 6 ember or qp or farm quests before I get bored of that and about 10 story only quests before I need a break. Right now that caps out at 3 of farm and 6 of story before I need to let the bar refill.

I actually do think keeping an AP system doesn't hurt too much as it prevents addictive play for the most part and means players won't feel as content starved ( as if the AP system didn't exist and most or all quests were free, the game would be cleared within a week or two followed by long periods of not playing). However, 3 quests draining the AP bar is really not ok. Especially when those 3 quests aren't even particularly difficult. It would be different if they were difficult or on a boss battle level of difficulty with appropriate rewards

agreed, another thing about pad is that if youve been playing a while and have a good size stamina bar, you can easily do 3-4 of the highest tier dungeons in the game before depleting the stamina bar not to mention cheaper resource farming. and theres no player level cap like we have a master level cap so even those who've been playing for ages will get a level up refresh every now and then.

kinda unrelated but do you think right now is a good time to get into pad? I'm somewhat interested in playing it

its jsut as good a time as any honestly. i can honestly say you amost dont feel like your limited by stamina if you use it strategically for level ups. for examply im player rank 432 which gives me about 250 stamina. theres a dungeon that costs 99 that i can clear for almost a full level up to refresh my stamina. on top of that if you play co op stam costs are halved so i have a second account on my other phone.

you can start any time. but i do reccomend doing it during a godfest which happens about every two weeks and during that you can reroll for a very high chance at a top tier monster. the last one was last weekend i think so there should be another one soon. if you do start add me and we can co op and i can get you started in the right direction 313842423

I agree. I have no problem with AP, fundamentally. They just need to make it so that our AP gets us further. It is a bit too ridiculous the way that it is.

I agree with you completely. The AP mechanics surprised me quite a bit when I started playing FGO, and they are my biggest complaint about this game. I played another mobile game that is similar to this one in a lot of ways, and it obviously had an AP system as well, but it was way less limiting. A full AP bar could get you a lot further, and the game threw enough free crystals at you every week that you could buy energy refills without really feeling like you just wasted some type of rare resource that you should have saved for the future. When I started playing FGO, I expected it to be the same, so I was in for a big surprise.

I also thought that it would be better when I was higher level, but now I've learned that all it really means to be high level is that you barely ever gain new levels and get free AP anymore. I think that they need to make quests a bit cheaper or something. I honestly think that people would buy more saint quartz for AP refills if AP could get you a bit further. Right now, it just feels like a terrible value to even pay for saint quartz when a refill only gains you 10-15 more mins of gameplay.

Even low level story mode quests are too damn expensive. I'm stuck in Orleans now, because I started playing during the summer event, and I switched over to do the event right after Fuyuki. By the time the event ended, I was already over level 100, so now I can't level off of the story mode quests anymore, so I can't just keep playing through it like I would have been able to if I hadn't stopped to do the event. Now I'm having trouble justifying spending my 10-15 mins worth of AP on story quests, instead of things that will give me exp cards or materials or something. But I really want to play...

My husband started playing soon after AX17. I didn't start until he was away from home and wouldn't be able to guarantee wifi to get his login bonus so left his tablet at home with me... And I ended up trying some quests.

After getting hooked, we'd battle over who got to use the ap. And then I was on bed rest, with no apples and unwilling to buy SQ to play... So I started a new account during a half ap on story quest week. Took over 2 days to run out of ap that way.

Now my husband is often too busy to play, so I toggle back and forth between the two accounts and usually have enough ap to satisfy me. So if you really want more ap, run 2 accounts.

On one hand, I vehemently agree. I love the game and want to do the most that I can. It’d be amazing not to have to rely on quartz or apples as the current AP system is severely limiting

On the other, I sometimes feel like I’d spend too much time on FGO if the AP bar weren’t there, ya know?
I lack self-control over things like this. I’d binge hard every day. I know I would and it’d end up affecting my work for sure. So, mostly yes and a little no

Agreed. I used to be using SQ to recharge my AP until I find it unsustainable even though I do whale a bit on summons I like.

That is when I created a JP F2P acct. With this acct, I no longer uses SQ to recharge my NA acct as I will switch over to play the JP one when my NA AP is depleted. I am also fortunate enough that I started the JP acct at the time when they were showering players with lots of goodies for the 3rd anniversary event, so much so that I net myself all the summer girls there together with the queen of Quick deck Skadi thru some sheer luck that wasn’t even present in my NA acct.

So, that is an approach u can take to just “play” FGO. It is also a gd way to experience new servants which are not out yet in NA.
