My Stupid Habit (Please help)

So I have a dumb habit in games like this of choosing a character to 'be me', but I am struggling to think of a good character to choose. Basically I want a character that

A) is useful/flexible enough that I would consider taking them into every encounter, though not so broken that they trivialize everything
B) is fun to play
C) is male
D) is caster-y or somewhat tricky in terms of playstyle and/or theme.

I was considering Ozy, but instead I just spent all my quartz. Do you all have any suggestions on who I should save for, esp. jp players who have tried people not out in US?

hey can be 4* or 5*.

Quite a tricky criteria, but maybe Caster Gil once he comes around in Babylonia, he's also a 4* so you don't need to be super lucky to get him, plus he's pretty good but not as broken as let's say, Waver or Merlin.

Hans is pretty good too as a low rarity servant. Caster Cu I'd say is pretty alright as well, he is pretty much more niche but he's a good survivalist Caster. He's an Archer but he plays like a Caster imho but there's Nikola Tesla. And of course finally there's the mage Archer himself Emiya, who becomes pretty awesome once he gets both his strengthening quests, and his 1st one is coming this week. Not to mention he is somewhat lore accurate in that he's a magic-user trying to be an Archer, so his gameplay is both flexible and unique.

Overall my biggest recommendation would be Emiya (Archer) for current one that's available, and then maybe Gil (Caster) once he's out.

I like the idea of Tesla. Do you happen to have much experience with Amakusa Shirou or Sherlock? The fact that they are Rulers makes me think that they are a decent choice since they will very rarely be at a major disadvantage, but their lack of fun/interesting passives bother me.

Caster Gil might be a good idea, esp since I'm considering Enkidu anyway (although I already have Scathach).

I have experience with Shirou. In normal battles, he is somewhat normal. There is even a meme for him that he can't farm hands due to how his NP hits like a wet paper. Nevertheless, he shines mostly due to his NP. While Medea's Rule Breaker deals damage first before removing buffs, Shirou remove buffs first then deals damage, which is important in high difficulty quests and NP chaining. Even with a buster NP, he is somewhat a support so you need a main damage dealer in your team. Summer Martha is the only offensive ruler so far released in JP.

Hmmm... well I did have fun using Dantes during his event. Outside his tier list, he is good. He's an Avenger, is edgy, has cool attack animations, what more could you ask of him except for buff interludes? Kidding on the last part but he definitely needs a buff.

I was considering him, but he seems pretty bad, and like he's not getting better anytime soon.

Servants are not bad if you utilize them properly. I know that Dantes is overlooked with other servants especially with Jalter as his co-Avenger, but still he has good stuff. I've seen him spamming his NP every turn and there's a video on him on Youtube soloing 3BP Ushi Gozen in Onigashima.

Gilgamesh is a good candidate. Setting aside his 5* rarity AND horrible personality in the franchise, nothing is better than snapping your fingers and firing weapons like bullets out of portals from the dimension of your own personal stash, while watching your enemies get shredded to nothingness (literally).
And an Anti-World NP.
And a Divinity status.
And wearing golden armor over a six-pack.

Robin Hood is the perfect candidate here. He's an archer but has more assassin like(sabotage skill) methods. In Fate/Extra, his thing is poisoning and he prefers to avoid frontal confrontation and prefers guerilla warfare. Not to mention, he's one of the best single target archers in the game. Then Fuuma Kotaro is another option as well, he's a ninja(who also has the sabotage skill). That's as tricky as you can get
