Ok so I am new player and I lack any good casters, personally I think Casters are perhaps the worst class in game, I have Medea who I think is a very shitty caster, her NP damage is absolutely terrible at NP4 along with her overall bad damage and survivability, Nictoris is bad for boss fights and I am fine with it. I want to know are there any good casters who can do solo boss fights.
Waver is excellent support but he is a terrible damage dealer for boss fights, Sanzangs NP damage is quite underwhelming for a single target.
I like servants like Cu Lancer, Cu alter, Jalter, Scathach, Gilgmesh, and Nikola Tesla, Kintoki rider and Herc who are self sufficient and can be utilized independently, I am not a fan of support servants.
Sorry to vent out my frustration but I am trying to clear the King Hassan recruitment stage with that huge ghost Assassin boss and it beat the shit out of me even though I tried using friend support Waver and Sanzang. The casters just seem to be so terrible for any boss fights.
Can someone please tell me some good solo casters?
Casters are primarily support units, though class advantage against Assassins will let them deal good damage to Assassin bosses. Offensive casters would be Sanzang, Elizabeth Bathory (Halloween), Nursery Rhyme, Medea (what makes her good is spamming her NP, which she does quite well), and maybe Edison, Blatskavy, or Babbage.
As of right now, Sanzang is the only one besides Medea with a single target NP, IIRC, and the only one with a ST Buster NP.
Even as supports I dont find them to be any good, The only caster whom I seem to admire is Hans anderson, he is an excellent servant for a 2 star and both his NP and skills are quite useful.
While Waver maybe top tier but when it comes to boss fights he is not that reliable unless and until you have a steroids servant.
Thats just my thought but my experience with casters has been quite bitter, have cost me quite some quartz and command spells since most of my best servants are Riders.
To be fair, I don't really understand how you can admire Hans but seem to not be that impressed with waver? Like, but do bad damage because they are built as supports, and Waver does a lot of what Hans does only better?
Waver is absolutely top tier when it comes to boss fights. 30% Attack and Defense buff, 500 damage block? With essentially two fully charged NPs given starting NP boost CEs? And the potential to stack it twice with a support? It isn't uncommon for even my Berserkers to be taking zero damage against enemies with two sets of Waver buffs.
Early on Andersen is hands down the best Caster because he offers health regen at a time when your servants can't outright obliterate everything. Once you start maxing out your best servants, his support falls off outside crit teams because you don't need the HP regen as much anymore, and he has pitifully low damage.
Servants like Tamamo no Mae, Shakespeare, and Amadeus are a bit more situational, especially the latter two since their buff only lasts a turn. However, Shakespeare's Strengthening skill helps him be a budget Waver for Buster teams, and he has decent survivability. Amadeus will get a skill that gives you 50 crit stars when maxed later on, and has a good Arts boost skill. Tamamo no Mae has arts boost with over 50% up time (and a good heal on it), an amazing self-defense buff, and enemy charge removal - she is god tier for Arts teams.
The problem with running an all DPS build is that they can't survive effectively in harder content, sometimes even with class advantage. The raid events will be very difficult to complete without a decent set of supports (of which Andersen definitely counts, and a support can fill the other slot).
"I am not a fan of support servants" Well this is a game where about 90% of your power comes from supports sooooooooo good luck with that.
Being a bit more serious Sanzang is the best offensive caster currently and arguably even in jp so I'd say just use a berserker NP5 Lu Bu with Anniversary Blonde and Waver has a good chance of one shotting it with a NP BB crit chain this way.
Trust me I have cleared upto camelot without using a single support servant apart from guest servants in story, I mostly rely on servants match up to clear stages and it has been working pretty smooth apart from facing these assassin servants in which case the advantage amounts to shit.
Well, as a tipp, I can see from your support setup that your servants seem to be severly underlvld for camelot (you can't really expect a lvl 40 Medea to deal much dmg), so I'd recommend lvling up your servants first and trying again later. As for why you were able to clear everything up to Camelot just fine so far, well, there IS a huge power spike in comparison to the singularities before Camelot, in fact, it's so big that it even became a meme in Japan. But if you really want recommendations on what to use, I would suggest using your Herc together with a support Waver (with maxed out skills and the 2030 CE, if possible) or Sanzang with MLB Heavens Feel or Black Grail (she can spam her NP and that way she deals more dmg with it) and Mashu for some stalling, so your dmg actually survives and Sanzang gets to use her NP multiple times. That way, you should have no problem with the ghost. As for the 3rd party member, I would recommend using Shakespeare for more dmg or David for even more survivability (teamwide evade). As for Mystic Codes, if you want to deal as much damage as possible, I'd recommend Anniversary Blonde whereas you could use the Mage Associations Uniform for Heals and faster NP charge or the Chaldea Combat Uniform for a 1 turn stall and some damage. Though, no matter what you do, I'd really recommend lvling your servants, since, even if you manage to defeat the ghost, there are bosses waiting later on that are much harder to deal with...
Thanks for the advice Muesli, I actually killed the ghost using your Scathach, Man your support has saved me so many times, Thank you so much for that bro, as for level up yes I agree my servants are all under levelled I actually lack exp cards and since I used all of them to level Kintoki and Ozzy, I am in a little shortage right now.
Rather than using a caster which high damage, use a berserker instead and build your team around supporting them which most of time means - casters. That's what I did for the particular battle.
I have Herc bug the problem is, he is still at bond level 8 and most of my top servants are of rider class, hence I am having so much trouble facing Assassins, that ghost boss 2 crit shots my riders, they get no chance.
Even without his Bond 10 CE herc is a beast with decent support, If you can't counter class just get your zerks out :V
There is a clear lack of offensive oriented Casters and for good reason. Casters lore wise are mostly stuck in supportive roles and they don't really have the offensive power as the Knight classes. In game, they have a poor damage multiplier of 0.9, coupled with their usually below average attack stats.
Medea is still one of the best low rarity offensive caster. Being able to charge her NP at will makes her spam her NP a lot, although it has mediocre damage. Xuanzang is the best single target offensive caster while Elisabeth Bathory (Halloween) is currently the best AoE caster.
The one and most annoying problem I have with Medea is that she is at NP4 and at 300% overcharge she deals damage between 22 to 25k, while Kintoki rider who is at class disadvantage against Assassins deals a damage between 36 to 40K at 100% NP, which I find to be absurd. I mean if Medea has half the amount of damage at that much overcharge and class advantage then that is quite terrible according to me.
Even my Cu Lancer who is same level as Medea and at NP4 deals 25 to 28k at 100% NP.
My apologies for my rant, I am just too much frustrated due to my loss. Guess Casters will remain on my bitter side for now.
Overcharge doesn't increase medea's damage, and being able to use her NP 3 times in a row compensates low damage, plus she has guaranteed buff removal added in It.

I’m also somewhat new and I too share a distaste for using Casters offensively.
Most of the time I field some berserkers paired with either a tank or some support instead and can't therefore give much advice regarding self-sufficient casters.
On the topic of overcharge it is worth reading up on the particulars of a given Servant to see what order you should use the NP in or if it is worth waiting for a higher overcharge.
The in game description of the NPs don’t state the exact values so this website is pretty useful for a more detailed view that will explain why the Servants feels like they are performing subpar. I remember being very frustrated with Medb despite using her on males. I felt she did not live up to my expectations.
Noble Phantasms have rather different base values and that when the NP level increases they gain a flat improvement unrelated the overcharge (except for raising the cap). Most of the time I feel that it is far superior to the Servant’s actual level, a great example is Arash.
With the NP levels you mentioned Cu Lancer for instance has an attack at 1900% while Medea has either 712.5 or 862.5% pending if the interlude is completed. With close to twice as high attack it is no wonder he can cause comparable damage despite it being neutral.
I've noticed that I feel less frustration when comparing NP if their basic values are closer in range or ideal usage instead of more uneven situations.
Honestly the best advice I can give is that a deeper understanding of how servants work will aid a lot with this game, both in how they should be used individually or in a team.
I’m still experimenting but I admit that after I started following the Rashomon teambuilding guide I’ve had less problems.
On an unrelated note there has been times I have been grateful that I had Medea in the party. An enemy servant once spent five turns using Mind's eye. The constant evasion and the outrageous defence boost could have made things tedious if she hadn't wiped it clean.

that's why certain NPs have different percentages, damage has to do with class modifiers

Lancers have a 1.05x attack modifier while casters have .9x, meaning that lancers attack is effectively 5% higher than shown, while casters have 10% lower effective attack than shown, so servants like cu have both a higher NP total modifier and effective attack than someone like medea. Though medea makes up for that reduced damage by literally being able to NP every single turn
You misunderstand what he's saying - the .8 time quick modifier cancels out the NPs higher base modifier to make it effectively equal to an arts NP like Medea's.
Hypothetically you can spam Medea's NP each turn but it amounts to nothing if she cant Survive for long and does a very terrible damage on her NP.
And this is why support exists Tammamo/Waver buffs on and suddenly she's hitting hard and using NP every turn. Well if your Medea's is level 40 as stated above I really don't know what you expected no one hits hard at level 40 least of all a caster same goes for survival.
You could try to use 2 supports and some Berserker like Heracles or Cu Alter if you can't make a team out of casters. David is also extremely valuable and cheap because of his team-wide evade and also being tanky enough so he's an option. Tamamo Caster is also a viable option if you run an arts team, can help you spam NP, heal and also gives enough survivability.
I actually beat the quest with 2 Sanzangs and Blavatsky, didn't have that much of a problem.
Its been only 1 and half month since I am playing and on top of that I am f2p, I usually clear stages by forming a good anti team of the enemies, I try to only use guest servants to get as much Friend points as possible, Its very rarely that I use my friends support to clear boss fights, it has been working quite smoothly but in Camelot the Assassins keep beating the shit out of me since I only have Medea at NP4 and Nictoris.
So that is why I choose my friends Waver but lost, in the next match I chose Elizabeth Caster at NP5 and level 80 but lost then next time I chose Sanzang at level 90 and at NP2 and still lost. So that is why I got so angry and came here to rant.
I'm guessing you have Sanzang? Sanzang is the best offensive caster in the game right now. If you have her what are your levels for your servants? Camelot more or less demands that your servants should be max level with some decent skill levels.
As for solo casters, Sanzang is the best right now, and stays the best tbh, if you're wondering about low damage, it's because casters have a 0.9 multiplier on their actual attack number meaning that a level 90 max fou'd Sanzang, who has the highest attack among casters, even in JP, only has an effective attack of 11383, with some added for CEs
No bro I am f2p and that too I have been only playing for a month, I have Medea at NP4 and Nictoris as my best casters, I used my friends Sanzang but her NP2 damage was just so underwhelming.

I took out the ghost with Medea. When you NP every turn it doesn't matter that the damage is low (though with buffs I had her doing about 80k). She's more than enough damage to handle any assassin boss the game has had so far. If you can't beat it with her you're using her wrong.
Since you don't have your servants listed on the profile i'm guessing your medea is low lv. If not, her + Mozart (for the arts buff) Or Hans (as a healer), Maybe mashu for defense buffs + tamamo support (with lv10 third skill) should be enough to kill the ghost.
If you're really desperate there's also the classic Tamamo + Mashu combo for maximum stalling, It may take 40 turns, but the boss Will die :V
There's also the option to use Command seals to resurrect the party and finish the boss off
I managed to pull it off with a hans, support sanzang, Lu Bu, mash, david, and a lvl 50 medea. Honestly, its all about stacking the right buffs. That, and keeping your DPS alive. In this instance, I tried to keep sanzang alive while having Medea shaving off the damage. My lu bu ended up dying to a stray crit so I had to rely on those two to pull off the kill.

and yeah every caster is low damage no matter what, even against assasins thats why i still pfrefer to use berseker for camelot
i use mash, raikou, ibaraki, guest servant, hans/irri and hercules
people mainly use caster for support another servant
If you've just started the game and are having trouble with the fights before the actual knights, I'd suggest you just stay away from Camelot for now and focus on making your supports stronger. Medea with help from her team should be enough to kill the ghost boss easily, meaning you're likely far underleveled for camelot. There's a recommended level for a reason; if your team isn't all around that level you shouldn't really be there. You should focus on leveling and skilling all your servants before trying to clear Camelot.
In the first place, there won't be any events that require you to clear it until like the end of the year/next year so you won't lose anything by focusing on your servants.
To answer your question, there are no good solo casters, nor will there ever really be due to the nature of the class itself. Besides having a .9x attack modifier (meaning they do less damage than other classes regardless) and low star weight, casters as a class are predominantly supports
If you seriously want to clear it (don't use SQ on a damn story mission that's retarded) use a friends herc or cu alter or whatever to just murder him ez, or use a command seal
also gil and jalter definitely aren't self sufficient and seriously need support to hit their full potential
Honestly I would argue that no servant is self sufficient since every servant has a specific speciality and lacks in other areas. The closest I image to be self sufficient is Herc (with bond CE), Jack or Cu Alter but even they work better with supports.

To the OP, I know it's fun to just cram as many powerful damage servants into your team as you can and tear through everything, but as others here have pointed out, eventually the missions will get so difficult you won't be able to do without supports, so you should get used to using them. Camelot is generally considered the gateway to that portion of the game, where, for the first time, people who just used Herc to smash through everything found it legitimately difficult to do that for the first time.
