Im kind of lost as to which servants to grind and get leveled up and ascended. Im still very early in the story but this is in regard to much later into more challenging content.

Since you have Merlin already, a buster-crit team with jack as a star gen and either a support damage dealer or a NP5 Jaguar warrior should carry you through most of the challenging content throughout the next 2 years, give or take.
Your other options are quick, which isn't viable for a while, and arts in which Tamamo is used.
Thanks for the quick response. I figured Merlin was a safe choice to start with. Ill start working on jack now as well. Question though, wont jack having a bunch of quick cards get in the way of buster chains for the supporting damager? or is it negligible in the end?
The sea of stars that Jack puts out, will give you enough crits to negate not having a buster chain as often.
IIRC, a quick brave chain by Jack generates in excess of 50 stars without buffs, and I think that gives *every* card in the next hand 100% crit.
EDIT: Just remembered I tend to run Jack with Imaginary Around, so that probably buffs her star gen.
