I spent all of my SQ to get Merlin and I'm F2P too. As a fellow free player, I'd strongly recommend just stick with NP1 Merlin because you're already ahead, you know? Save for a rate-up that you really want (Like Jalter).

[NA / F2P] Snagged Merlin...keep rolling or save?
Pretty sure I've had EX luck between this and another game I play but I managed to get Merlin after three 10-pulls (as well as a bunch of existing servants I like to NP up), so now I'm left with about 130 quartz, and unsure what to do with it.
I'm pretty content with my current lineup (now that I FINALLY have my own support caster, with still no Waver in sight), and while there's still some servants or CE I'd like to have, I'm not too crazy about having them, and that includes just about anything in the upcoming banners for a -while-. So I'm thinking of the following options:
1. burn through the rest to try to NP up Merlin, and if not, then get other servants / CE in the process; after all, this is the only banner where he's the only focus.
2. burn through the rest during the Amakusa banner (or Chaldea Boys re-run), because anything to help his paltry NP damage would be nice
3. roll for gramps, only because I know he's good with Merlin but not because I care for him at all otherwise (he's 0% waifu material for me) and because I have WAY too many sabers to care about another one from the other upcoming banner
4. save for da Vinci / Jalter banner in 2020, both to NP up my da Vinci and to get another chance at Jalter
5. Combine #1 and #4 and just start saving up for the latter once the former is done and I can't pull anymore
Thoughts? I may also do one of the guaranteed rolls the next time they come up, since I didn't participate last time.

Im of the "semi-F2P (throw the random itunes gift card I get for christmas and what not) and roll some on everything that I could use" camp and it has paid off handsomely for me.....up until now. Saved a lot for this banner cuz I kept getting previous servants in a few single pulls or less so I 350 went into this one and I got nothing...lesson learned for me. I think Im gonna stick to my "roll 10-15 pulls/tickets on anything that would work" mentality as it spreads things out and if you dont get it, theres always the next one.

that would be a safe for me. Since personally I want Merlin for his skill set not for his NP. well sure, the NP charge and 25 stars per turn for 5 turns seems real legit, but you can achieve that using other means. same with the heal, Hans provide better heal at NP5 and easier to get too. but it's up to you tho...

I recommend saving them, you don't get much by upgrading his np.
Check FGO Cernipedia. there check left and click on events and summons. You will see future events summons etc.Then, decide what servants you want. We are 2 years behind from jp version in case you get confused. Right now in jps timeline we are at 2016

I got him off of 24 SQ (I had 33 to spend, no tickets, also F2P). I'd say save, because as others have said you don't really get too much more for extra NP levels, and you may as well save for other servants you want later on.

So everyone seems to be of the "don't spend for Merlin" -- what about trying for Gorgon in the Bab 2 pickup? I get that she's not very good, but it would be nice to potentially have an avenger at all until I get a chance at Jalter a year from now, and I'm not keen on trying for Dantes or waiting until Lobo.

Not really good from what i have heard, i suggest you wait till new year,there will be some pretty amazing new servants like Musashi (saber) and king hassan. Wasting quartz is bad if you are F2P. IF you really like gorgon go for it,otherwise she is not recommended.

I mean I have more than enough sabers (some of them actually good too) so Musashi is moot for me, and while I realize Hassan is good too, I have zero interest in him other than "because he's good and he's better with Merlin."
I'd be rolling for Gorgon because I like her, kinda like how I have a lvl100 NP4 Astolfo or a lvl96 NP2 d'Eon.

I don't really see the point in going for NP2. The ability to overcharge is handy (vs. np lowering effects) and an increased amount of healing (1500 vs. 1000) is nice, but it doesn't compare to the increases that other (damage dealing) servants get by increasing to NP2.
I would say save (which is what I have personally done as well after getting merlin at 60 SQ + 10 tickets spent while having 219 SQ left).
