I don't really want to spend any money unless it's for the 5* guaranteed gacha. It would be great to be able to do both, but i asked this because i'm afraid my luck would cause me to waste all of my SQ and tickets on one rate up banner. Merlin and KH banners release date are also close.
Edit : Alright, thanks guys for answering. It seems that both are great, although Merlin is incredibly useful, god-tier support. But considering that everyone will have Merlin in their support team with more upgrades that i could ever give him, i think i will roll for KH. KH also looks easier to ascend than Merlin, but i'm still gonna spend a little bit of SQ and tickets on Merlin's banner though.
It depends on your current team and your priority,
If you don't have reliable support like waver or else, then go for Merlin ( it also able to provide you with friend points through assigning it as a support )
If you have ryougi shiki (Assassin), and also wanna have fun insta killing lowly enemies (not sure if its gonna work on bosses though) . Then go for Gramps. He's also pretty strong for assassin class servant.
Merlin pretty much makes most of the fights a joke with how overpowered he is as a support. And you will be getting crazy amounts of friend points if you set him as a support.
KH is badass though, but he, like all Buster servants, gets insanely better when Merlin is around.
I would go for Merlin if you have another good ST Assasin like Shiki.
Which do you like more? That's the most important part.
Pros and cons for both:
Merlin:
Pros:
- Very good support, perfect for buster/crit servants but good for every team regardless
- Getting him means you can run double merlin which is one of the few double-ups that is actually extremely helpful.
- Friend points if you max him and put him in support slot.
Cons(?):
- One of the most sought-after servants, much like Jalter. There will 100% be Merlins with 10/10/10 maxed on your support list somewhere, also a chance that some will be NP2; easier to access if you don't have him (that said, I would think that King Hassan would definitely be in the support list as well, albeit with a lower likelihood of appearing with fully maxed 10/10/10 nearly as often as Merlin).
King Hassan:
Pros:
- Good damage output for an assassin
- One of the few assassins with a buster-oriented deck, best assassin to pair with Merlin.
- Good survivability for an assassin.
- Not related to KH himself, but his rate-up is later than Merlin's, so that likely means more SQ to spend for him, so a few more chances to get him. Maybe something to think about.
Cons:
- Part of his kit and NP is focused on instant-death, which is an inconsistent game mechanic.
- Also, his instant-death NP is ST. The ST is a pro for boss killing, but in that case the instant-death might as well not be there at all. Ideally, instant-death NPs are better off as AOE (ie, Nitocris) for farming/wave clearing since it doesn't work on bosses.
- Finally (and least relevant), Jack is arguably a better assassin than King Hassan, depending on circumstances and use, however, it's hard to think of a better support caster than Merlin; Waver is on-par with him at best, at least as far as I know.

Don't be. In-depth analysis and comparisons of servants are vital when deciding which servant to pull, especially if your budget is limited. If anything, you've helped OP have a better understanding of the pros and cons of both servants.
To add to this, you simply roll for the servant that you personally prefer. It is very likely that you will have Merlin supports, so you don't have to worry on getting one of your own. King Hassan is badass, and that's enough reason to try to roll for him.
If you ask me, personally I will choose King Hassan. It feels that he is a real, true to its class name, badass assasin. Unlike other assasins, Hassan families are real one not just loli or cute sadistic. A personification of Assasin itself.
Merlin is of course one of the best. But most of your friend list will get it anyway , in fact most of "Casters" support list will be Merlin by the time he got released
I would go for merlin because I love cancer teams so I would use another support merlin to cheese the game.
