So I've been having a long indecisive conflict on what to do with the GSSR for New Years. Finally decided why not ask about it and see how I should decide based on the answers. First off here are my only three 5 stars:
Merlin
Waver
Cleopatra
I don't have too many yet considering I have only played for about half the year and I've been completely free to play(until now) but for my only 5 stars I lucked out pretty heavily since I don't actually save my quartz and use them on the spot, I'm impatient okay?
Anyway I was planning on going for the Caster banner out of greed to maybe get Sanzang for a buster Caster or specifically Tamamo to have a holy trio of 5 star supports at my disposal (and also for that animation update :3). But I don't want to risk getting another Waver.
I was thinking on the other more useful side that wouldn't go wrong for me at all would be getting a Rider. I could use Memelin and Waver to make a good Buster team (or 2 Memelins), but looking online about how using Memelin is shameful and is going to be countered in future challenge quests and what not has me thinking twice.
Or on that note, I planned on doing the Assassin/Extra banner initially because I wouldn't mind having a Jack to grail up with my Nursery just for favorites sake and Jeanne would be able to fill my Extra slot and do Ruler things.
I don't need a Saber, my Rama satisfies me enough, the Archers don't interest me much at all, and for Lancers I'd be satisfied with Enkidu but I don't like the other Lancer options on there, same for the Berserkers I'd like Cu and maybe Nightingale, but I don't want Vlad.
What do you think? Should I risk the despair-riddled gacha with my already high luck to get something I want? Or go for something more efficient for the future despite the shame?
Why not gacha within the gacha? Close your eyes and pick a banner. Lol jk any of the servants can pair with your Merlin and Waver. Roll for whomever you like. Better yet, read guides about the servants you are interested in, and make your own decision who to roll for.
Plus you've already answered your own question.
If you don't like the servants on another banner, just roll for your waifu then ( Jack/Assassin banner ).
Rolling for favorites = win-win situations.
Bonus : gacha Inception is a good idea !
Gacha inside the gacha inside the gacha ( your friend/stranger/random passerby choose the banner without telling you + rolling with eyes close + RNG based summon itself ).

Roll for the servants you like. Gameplay wise, there is nothing wrong going with buster teams for now. Quick team will dominate in two years but Buster team will have its time for a while. Don't worry too much about future servant tiers as gameplay shifts every now and then with major servant releases like Merlin and Skadi. IMO, JP is trying to let every servant have their moments. Assassin/Extra is a solid pick, but I wouldn't rule out Riders.
