Recommended focus for a new player?

Hello. I started playing 5 days ago, and now I'm reaching a point where I run out of AP really fast, so I guess I need to start using it more efficiently. What should I be spending my AP on?

Thus far, I have cleared Fuyuki. Then I spammed the ember gathering daily a bunch, to level myself to 42 and my Kyohime (lancer) to 50, and I've gotten a few miscellaneous servants to level 25-30ish. Then I completed the event and have also purchased the Summertime Mistress CEs and the Bell Ringing Branches from the event shop.

Now I don't know if I should keep farming the event to try to get a 5th Summertime Mistress and to try to purchase more things from the event shop, or if I should resume the story mode at this point, or if I should be doing something else entirely. Does anyone have any recommendations? And if the answer is to keep farming the event, what are the most important things for me to prioritize in the shop? I think I can only farm the Advanced (30 AP) quests, so I don't know if it's more AP efficient to get these things from the shop or via other means.

Sorry if this question is too long. I just figured it would help to give as many details about my situation as possible. I guess I only have enough AP to do like 2 quests every 5-6 hours, so I want to try to make sure that I'm spending it as efficiently as possible. I would have asked this question sooner, but I initially underestimated the extent at which AP seems to limit my gameplay.

AP limits everyone's gameplay. If you really want to be efficient than yes you should clear as much of the shop as you can. The shops is definitely the most ap efficient way to get exp tokens as well as the best guaranteed way to get ascension and skill up materials.
If you want to truly enjoy the game though, keep at it with the story. Not only is it more content to clear but also it increases the pool of servants you can get as SRs and SSRs.

My personal suggestion: at least buy the exp tokens and maybe even the fous. And buy whatever ascension tokens kiyo and any of your other high use servants use if they're available in the shop. That way it becomes a choice after whether you want to keep efficiently farming the event or want to progress the story (which by the way would get you more quartz to summon so is also beneficial). The most efficient time to do the story by the way is when it can be done at half AP cost which does happen in between events.

A tip for the future: Try to level at least one decent servant in every class if possible. Even mash. Mash is probably the most efficient usage servant and becomes a monster of a support post Camelot. If you want to know what servants are decent, take a look at the tier lists and see what each of the tier 1 and 2 servants are good at

Thanks for your responses. I will keep hacking away at the event for now. I have also been trying to level one servant of each class, based on the tier lists, but for some classes, I only have tier 3 servants, so I haven't been sure whether I should wait for better servants or not.

For example, I have a ton of assassin embers, but I don't have any tier 2 assassins yet. Should I go ahead and build one of the tier 3 assassins, or hold out for something better? I think that my options are Scathach, Kojiro, and 3 different versions of Hassan.

Of those options the best at their role would be a toss up between Shishou and Fuuma. Fuuma is the better star gen with better support but as an SR Shishou does more damage. If I were you I'd level up shishou (Scathach if you're unfamiliar with Nasuverse terminology :p). In fact I'd try and get her to 80 first if I were you since you already have her ascension materials.

Thanks. I haven't managed to pull a Fuuma yet anyway, so I'll just go ahead and level Shishou.

The story mode is not going away, like the events. You can allways do it later (Hint: Orleans, the chapter after Fuyuki is full of Wyvern, who are Riders; bring your best assassins). But they do liberate extra servants in the gacha poll...

Still, I recomend to do Main Plot when there is no event going on (or if the Event is Nero Fest, who is just so hard for newcomers). Extra bonus if it is a "half-AP Main Quest campaign", where you can rush the first chapters in like 2 days. Most events do only demand Fuyuki to be done, exceptions for some (Halloweens demand Orleans completion, for example).

Two recomendations: 1- Don't waste your apples for more Ember/Materials quest (or in the main story), they are rare, keep for events.
2- Have in the begining one (or at maximum 2) main Archer, a main Zerk, a main Caster, etc., and throw the maximum of class-related embers you have at them. After they reach a certain level (let's say, 40), you can start working on another unit. I recomend (just silver and bronze ones, as they are the ones who you are very common to roll) Cu/Proto-Cu for Lancer, Robin/Euryale for Archer, Hans/Medea for Caster, Caesar for Saber, Cursed Arm Hassan or Kotarou/Kojirou for Assassin, Kiyo/Lu Bu for Berserker, Ushiwakamaru/Medusa for Rider.
Oh, congrats on your Kiyolancer, as she is a excellent Buster and boss killer.

As for mats, for now priorize second ascensions of the servants over skills (well, they only start to use ascension mats by level 4-to-5, so you can keep them at 4 in the begining).

Also, roll your Free 10X FP gacha everyday, most of the content is trash (1* CEs, feed them to your good CEs), but you can occasionally get good 3*s servants and CEs, and even NP up/limit break them (also, NP5 Hans, Kojirou, Georgius and Arash, who are very useful low star units).

Thank you. I have been working on Ceasar, Ushiwakamaru, and Lu Bu, so far. For archers, I have been working on Bonnie and Anne Reed, because that was the first archer I pulled and I was fighting against primarily saber enemies at the time. I haven't pulled Robin Hood, but I do have Euryale and Arash now. Should I swap over to one of those? Unfortunately, I haven't pulled any casters other than Mozart and Shakespeare.

I haven't started an assassin yet, because I have been somewhat confused about what to pick. I do have both Kojirou and Cursed Arm Hassan though. Is one recommended over the other? And would one of those be recommended over Scathach?

Also, which Cu would you recommend? I have both of them.

Anne and Bonnie are 4*, goldens, both the archer and the rider version. They are better than the silver ones (just a little risky to use, as their special attack gets stronger the lower their HP is).

Euryale is good for fighting males (her charm, second skill, has 70% chance of made them lose their turn, and thats in the level 1 of the skill; her NP also can charm males and reduce attack of the victim, plus deals big extra damage if they are males...she's a male kill machine).

Robin can attack down + poison for 5 turns every enemy in the screen in his first skill, his NP causes extra dmg to the poisoned ones.

Arash NP hits everybody, and causes a good damage on all...but kills him after fired. Once you NP5 him, keep him in the frontline with starting NP CE, when he dies from NP use, he will give space for a stronger unit to finalize his job. Aside from the powerfull kamikaze NP, he's nothing that special, like the others. No need to level his skills.

To be fair, there is no truly bad low star Archer in this game /lol. Even Kid Gilgamesh, whose NP is trash has Charisma A+, the best of all silvers, and a multigender charm for human enemies.

Mozart and Shakespeare are useful for the first skill to boost the arts/buster chain coming, but their damage is horrible...

I would only level Scat after the end of the part 2 of the event, whe she goes permanent (be sure to buy her ascension materials in the part 1 shop). CA Hassan has good star gen, low attack.

There's Cu Caster (the free one you get from Fuyuki), Lancer Cu from Fate Prototype (Rune Spell B first skill) and the Lancer Cu of Fate Stay Night (Battle Continuation 1st skill). Proto-Cu has bigger HP and Attack values, but SN Cu has all his skills focused on survivalism (revive, 3 evades, minor heal with status neg removal). FSN Cu is better at backline, ideal last man standing, Cu Proto can dish lot of damage when he crits with Rune Spell activated (have a good stargen maker with him, and no Rider allies in the field, as they suck much more stars).

Going to expand on one of his points as it is a pertinent one: Always go for ascension over skill up. Save any and all skill tokens you can for when you're more stable and have a team of at least 5-7 max ascended max levelled servants. There is a huuuuge difference between having a team of 70-90s versus having a bunch of 6/6/6 40s and 50s. Favor ascension till you have those 5-7 and then think about skills. Also event welfare servants are typically easier to ascend than other servants so even if you have another servant in the slot, max level the welfare servant soon as is viable to aka the breaks between events.

Hmm, since you've only cleared Fuyuki at this point, might try doing a story quest until you level up. Then do maybe one or two quests at the summer event then save some AP enough to go for a few story quests then use that AP again to level up at story missions. APs were never a problem at the early stages of the game iirc. I just kept doing story quests and used what meager drops I got to level my servants and let supports carry me through the story. I never ran out until I think Okeanos or Rome.

I don't think that story quests will really level me at the moment though. I went and boosted my level a whole bunch by spamming the 40 AP ember gathering quest, until it stopped giving me levels. So now I think that I'm higher level than I'm supposed to be at this stage of the story, and they aren't really giving me enough exp to level.

Going to add a bit more detail on the non SR servants to help based on what you have:

Saber: Caesar is your best option for now. You may get spooked by OG Seiba (Altria) or Daddy Issues (Mordred) both of whom are good as SSRs but the odds of that are low so Caesar has a good kit and Ugly Bastard is definitely worth levelling.

Lancer: Kiyo is honestly really good so you're somewhat set there. If you want a backup who can potentially even be used in end game level FSN Cu (Fate stay night or just normal Cu Chulain). Protection from arrows is an amazing talent that makes him near unkillable.

Archer: Robin hood is a very good boss nuke but poor at everything else. I'd level Euryale first as she is about the same as Robin while also having the amazing niche of being amazing against male servants. She can stun them quite a bit with her NP and her second ability and does do more damage against males.

Rider: Ushi is quite decent. Christmas event will bring out Santa Alter I believe as the welfare servant who is quite a decent rider herself

Caster: Hans Hans and Hans again. Get a Hans, np 5 that Hans, level that Hans. Outside of waver or Merlin (both SSRs) there is no better support unit. If you want to level another caster, Medea has a unique ability to cast her NP often and remove boss buffs with her NP which comes in more handy than you'd think!

Assassin: Shishou would be your best option as she is so easy to ascend. If you get the ascension materials though, Fouma is the second best star generator after SSR Jack the ripper.

Berserker: Bahsahcar is the best option if you can ever get him on rate up or have him spook you (I mean Heracles). But failing that, Lu Bu is a very decent berserker that puts out quite a bit of buster damage as long as you can keep him alive. Special mention goes to Kiyohime who is almost worth raising for her voice interactions alone. Kiyo stars primarily as a good farm servant who can AOE np sets of mobs down.

Other: Level best kouhai. She costs 0 and will never give you up, never let you down, and even never run around and desert you.

Thanks for taking the time to give me so much advice. I'll keep hoping to summon a Hans, and I'll keep working on the other servants that you mentioned. As far as archers go, I had previously been putting my archer exp into Bonnie and Anne. Would you recommend that I abandon her in favor of Euryale? Also, do skeleton dudes and boars and stuff also count as males? Or is it just servants?

Up

No, skeletons and boars are not male. Zombies, soldiers, werewolves, werejaguars, goblins, centaurs, celtic soldiers, enforcement knights, mechanised infantry and sphinxes are the only enemy grunts that have the male trait right now. If you want to see other enemy traits, I recommend this site: http://fategrandorder.wikia.com/wiki/Traits

With your archer selection, both are very gimmicky. Euryale's is more specific (anti-male) but extremely effective in it's niche, while Anne & Mary's is a little trickier to use but effective on any enemy that doesn't have archer resistance. Also, it will be easier to get Euryale to NP5 than Anne & Mary. Euryale will also become a great asset during the singularity in particular, though she isn't necessary for it either. Personally I would say Euryale, but it also depends on what sort of team you want to run.

Keep at it with Anne and Bonnie since you've started but try to get Euryale up before Camelot. She runs circles around Gawain. There's an entire strat based around neutralizing him with stun chains. He must really like lolis ^^
