So it’s been a while since I’ve seen UBW so correct me if I’m wrong but it always confused me that when Archer revealed he was emiya from the future and how he tried to save everyone and ironically killing a lot of people in the process (I think?) and how he’s given up. So emiya then just says nah I’m gonna keep saving people yet he is looking at the result of what he will end up turning into if he keeps going down this path and how it won’t work but Emiya still wants to do this?
It’s just who he is and because of archer existence his future won’t be the same.
But archer didn’t even offer advice (maybe he did but I don’t remember). It’s like if I saw a clone of me from 40 years into the future and he tells me that I always helped out others and in the end I overworked myself and live a sad life. I wouldn’t be like “that’s impossible I’m gonna keep helping every one no matter what”.
Based on my memory of the series (it's been a while so I might be off):
It's established that in the Fate universe, there are multiple timelines. in UBW, this specific timeline, Archer was summoned and 'tried' to kill this version of his younger self.
However, that very fact alters the timeline, and in an 'alternate ending' clip called Sunny Day, Tosaka saves Saber. She ends up staying with Shirou to help him and make sure he doesn't become that Archer.
Edit: Also if you remember at the very very very end of UBW where Shirou is alone in a desert, from what I read online, that scene was suppose to be the place where the original Archer dies and its basically showing that our Shirou in UBW was able to surpass Archer.
It is less about timelines and more about the fact that Shirou would not allow himself to be dissuaded from following his ideals, even if they lead him down a destructive path. He'd rather go down the same path as Archer than to give up on his dream entirely.
So there is Heroic Spirit Emiya and there is Shirou.
Heroic Spirit Emiya became a Heroic Spirit by agreeing to become a Counter Guardian, which meant the planet used him as a problem solver. He was repeatedly summoned specifically to wipe out threats to humanity (and everything in the immediate area). To Heroic Spirit Emiya, that isn't what he wanted at all. He wanted to be a hero that didn't spend all his time killing and actually got to know what it's like to save people. It drove him to the point that he was willing to try to kill his younger self to break the cycle via paradox. Even if it didn't work, he'd be preventing another version of himself from the hell that he was trapped in, thus saving them from a major mistake.
UBW Shirou surpassed Heroic Spirit Emiya in terms of being a hero at least partially due to the influence of Heroic Spirit Emiya. This version of Shirou most likely won't make the deal with Alaya to become a Counter Guardian.
It doesn't really matter to Alaya since Heroic Spirit Emiya already exists within the throne of heroes.
