If you’re the kind of guy who throws together multiple high-rarity servants for the purpose of being ‘flashy’ in the game, then you’re gonna have a hard time.
What I would do is build teams based around several available archetypes (quick-oriented, NP span, Buster damage, etc.), and this website has some guides to help you build these teams with whatever servants you have. I know I got a lot of useful tips just by reading those articles, and I’m now a lot better at the game.
Since I brought it up before, 5-Star servants aren’t everything. If you’re like me and rarely have any good luck with the Gacha (RIP my chances of getting Jalter on Wednesday), you’ll learn to rely on what you have rather than what you want. Build with what you got as you deem fit!
Also, refer to the affinity chart if your servants are having a tough time dealing and taking damage. I know that at the beginning of the game, I tended to lose sight of basic affinity and as a result lost many battles. I’ll give you a tip: if the quest features only one kind of enemy (Saber, lancer, Archer, etc.), put servants on your team that are strong against that one specific class (for example, having a team of casters to fight in a quest featuring assassin-class enemies only). For quests featuring 2 or more different classes, put at least one servant that’s strong against a respective class featured in your team. For clarification, don’t let THIS be the only factor in how you build your teams. Build around the strengths of your servants! For quests with a ‘?’ class enemy, you’re likely going up against a demon god pillar. Use any of the 4 cavalry classes (Rider, Assassin, Caster, Berserker) to be effective and have damage resistance against them.
One last thing: save up your quartz! In your time away from the game, we have received a lot more content than what was present in vanilla FGO before Okeanos came out. It may seem overwhelming at first, but the game itself has a guide to new/renewing players like yourself to help navigate what’s new in Chaldea! If that doesn’t help, then this website can provide you with some useful tools and advice from real players.
Happy summoning!
