I was doing some thinking and I came to a conclusion. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Everyone is going to be rolling for Merlin so it won't be difficult at all to use Merlin whenever I want since someone will have him. The only real reason to roll for Merlin is if you like him or if you want to use double Merlin teams.
So is it (financially/resource) strategically just a better idea to use the quartz designated for Merlin to roll for other servants you want or need to fill out empty roles in your roster since everyone will have the uber god Merlin on your friends list anyway?
Depends on if you want to rely on others ces or don't want to use a different support. Some will do double Merlin, but that's not needed (well technically Merlin's isn't necessary either considering how 3*s do but that's aside from the point) Strategically, I would just say it depends on if you don't mind relying on others and have the other elements needed already. If so, then yeah, might be best to wait it out.

That's where I'm at these days so I feel like Merlin isn't as needed as stronger characters to fight with. Thanks for the advice.

Merlin just makes for the most broken and facerollish comp strategy but not the only one. I'd still try to get one of the current big 3: Waver, Tamamo, or Hans. As any comp does require a support and along with Merlin when he arrives these will be the best support option. The pieces you have though would benefit most from Merlin though for sure as you seem to be heavy on buster and crit gatherers and light on arts heavy decks
Yeah, I know what you mean. I even regret that I rolled Jalter when I see most of my support list have her, grailed, all skils @ 10 and NP5...
It is the same case with Archuria now so I stopped pulling for her after 14 tickets and 60 SQ and it will be the same with Merlin. And I hate playing with a double of the same servant: I feel like I am a noob...
I will go for Cleopatra (Danganronpa fan here), an AoE assassin with a strong survivability or you can wait for the rerun of the Christmas to go for Jack.

after much thinking a couple a days ago. Decided I'm planning on skipping Merlin as well. I have some whale friends who I'm sure are gonna roll liek crazy for him(just hoping they won't delete me from their friend list).
I got some team comps in mind that don't need double Merlin, and I think Double Memelin is overkill anyway. not trying to sound cocky or anything, but I still wanna have fun and some challenge with the game. I think I'd rather just roll for the servants I really like over rolling for gameplay.

Yeah, I plan on dropping about 240 on his plus whatever summon tickets I get along the way from now until January

Well it isn't necessary per se to roll for ANY specific servant. Merlin is just the best one on many fronts. In that sense, yes, it is. Even if there will be others with Merlin, 2 Merlins is better than 1. There is practically no downside other than opportunity cost. BTW, if you look hard enough you can find every servant on your support list. Merlin will just be easier to find at 10/10/10.
I recently started a JP f2p acct and managed to get a lot of Merlins enabled friends. Having him truly helps tremendously. But that said, it's really easy to find Merlins around and fully grailed too..so if u r short on sq..and need other servants...go for them
Think of it this way, everyone knows that virtually everyone else would try to roll for Merlin, and some would have him 90 10/10/10 quickly. So why roll for Merlin?
FOR THE FP! THAT'S IT! If you're not even remotely bothered of slapping him on Support page and forgetting he ever existed, I wouldn't roll him.
