Is Angra Mainyu really that bad?

Hey everyone. I just got Angra Mainyu from a free friend point summon, and I couldn't believe my luck given how ridiculously difficult it is to summon him, or so I've heard.

But after reading his overview here on this website, I feel a bit discouraged to level him up. I'm relatively new to the game, and I'm afraid I wouldn't know how to effectively build a team around him as the website "recommends", and I'm not sure I have any of the CE that are recommended for him either (I'll check later and edit this).

Is there any way I can use him effectively? Or should I just put him on my support list and make other people jelly? He's probably the rarest servant that I have, and I really would appreciate some advice on what to do and not to do. Thanks!

EDIT: I just checked, and unfortunately I don't have any of the CE after all. :(

No,he's not. You need to have experiences to know how to use him effectively. And he's also really hard to summon. Even if u dont have any gut CE, u will get his bond CE later although it takes quite some times to get. He's an avenger class,O cost servant with class advantage in almost all of the class. There's only 6 avenger class servants, 3 on NA server, 6 on JP. Try testing him on easy quests, if u dont know how to, just ditch him for now. Use some easy 3* servants for now and get levels, new servants and learn the game.
If you are an otaku or watch anime, search on youtube "Nana tsu no taizai" in which the main hero use his ultimate "full counter" which is the exact same skill of Angra Mainyu.

Just to correct a few things here, Angra is 4 cost, not 0, and the Avenger Class has double damage only against Berserkers or Rulers. Angra does get double against Beasts with his Bond CE, but that's unrelated to the class (Though it does resist Beast class inherently, only Angra actually deals double). All other classes are hit neutrally by Avengers, which severely limits his damage.

Also, I wouldn't say that Angra Mainyu has Full counter. Meliodas never actually takes a hit from a spell he counters, which let him actually use it in combat (since he doesn't take damage). Angra does, and if he dies, all that damage goes to waste. Revenge Counter is a much more accurate comparison.

Thanks for replying! Just to clarify though, I'm fairly new, but not THAT new xD. I'd say I have a bit less than 2 months in the game, so I do know some stuff (I finished Orleans recently). I'm just not knowledgeable on building teams and using CEs, specially when they involve characters that sound pretty difficult to use.

And I do know Nanatsu! I'm currently following the manga, and it's pretty dope. Revenge Counter is really OP! But Angra doesn't have much HP from what I've read, so it doesn't seem to be reliable in this case. Guess I'll leave him aside for now until I get better at the game.and get cooler stuff. It's a shame though, since he's cool af;

Also, thanks for clarifying, Itachikage! :)

Yeah, Angra is really tough to use, even for veterans (I should know. I'm currently trying double Angra on one of my side accounts. I haven't made it past Okeanos yet, and I've been playing since Fate/Zero), so there's definitely nothing wrong with setting him aside until you have the resources to use him properly. If you have some room in your party while farm, you may want to add him in. I forgot to mention on my review that the Interlude to make his third skill viable requires bond level 10, and that takes a LONG time. Thankfully, he's only 4 cost, so you can usually switch him in without adversely effecting your ability to play the content. It won't be here for a while, but if you have the cost to start early, it can't hurt.

Angra really is that bad, sadly, though it does make sense. He's the weakest heroic spirit, and it shows. Not to say he's useless, but outside of self imposed challenges and a few spoiler battles, he's just bad. His stats are terrible, his skills are pretty bad, and his Noble Phantasm is borderline unusable.

Eventually, he gains an Interlude that makes his third skill (His only good skill) even better, but even with it, he'll be outdamaged by just about everything that hits neutral. If you get him to bond 10, he gets the incredibly niche ability to deal double damage to exactly two enemies, but even at double damage, he'll still probably be dealing less then any three star berserker.

Overall, he's a status symbol more than anything else. Using him in battle isn't recommended unless you're a veteran trying to challenge yourself or just really like the character. It's a shame, because I love his design, but he's got basically nothing going for him except that he's rarer than anything else in the game.

Oh well... It really is a shame. I like his concept as well, which is why I had high expectations when I summoned him. Most comments I recieved do seem to support the fact that he's weak unless he's in the hands of skilled players, which really isn't my case, sadly. The fact I don't have any good CEs or any idea on how to successfully build a team around him doesn't help either. Guess I don't have much of a choice but to set him aside for now. At the very least, I can brag about having summoning him, since it's still pretty hard and I was really lucky xD

Thank you for your reply! :)

The first thing you need to know is that he basically has the stat of a 2 star, so probably not gonna do a lot of damage to begin with.
Second, his NP doesn't do damage directly, it only hit back if he got hit, so it is difficult to use.
I don't have him but I have seen people make it work, but you have to build a team just for him, and is probably better to get his bond CE.
All in all, it's just a lot of resources to get him to work.

Angra is so bad that he tells you he's the weakest and to not use him in his Bond 1 line. In his Bond 2 he actually tells you to roll for someone Else :V

His kit is basically just a mess - 2 fairly strong defensive skills followed up by a skill that kills him doesn't make the most sense and an NP whose power is reduced by those same defensive skills makes for a very unfortunate combination. The one nice thing is his defensive skills are actually fairly strong(30% attack down, 50% crit down, guaranteed charge drop) so he can do okay on a stall based arts team though until he gets his interlude that leaves him as having just two skills which is obviously not a great thing.
