4* servants that are better than 5*

Lancelot saber for sure, he is way better that artoria.. An other example of a good 4* that can beat 5* : Hercules (or Basakaaaa).

Personally i still choose lancelot than Arthur, her stat is better but we can grail lancelot. Lancelot skill is better than Arthur and his np also St that make him more useable in boss figh.
There are lot 4* or 3*star servant that stronger than 5* servant but in conditions
Like how eurayale is better than any other servant if against male saber
Heracles is better against other tier 3 of 5* servant if he have his Bond ce
Shiki is more useable in boss figh than shuten
Kintoki rider better than mebd (in damage and np spamming)

In addition, there is lancer altria alter who is better than her counterpart. Chloe a free servant that may not be better than comparable 5 star archers but is free. Carmilla with her powrful st anti female np. Summer mordred has no real comparison in being an arts rider.

Astolfo and eon are the most powerful traps and both are 4*. Do you see any 5* traps? Does da Vinci count? Not sure.

Real talk just look at the tier lists. Anyone in tier 1 and tier 2 of the 5* list is flat out the best at doing what they do second to none. While their may be niche servants at lower rarities that manage to do slightly better within those niches, the servants in those two tiers hold their own while bringing much better all round utility

Tier 1 of the servants in the 4* tier list are the only 4*s that compare to 5*s due to the high utility of their kits independent of setup around them. They generally thus beat out most of the other tiers in the 5 star tier list other than the top 2 for all around in game value as a unit.

Then you have Cu chulain who's one gimmick just happens to be able to apply in every conceivable situation and which he happens to be best at. Ridiculous

Short answer: Not unless the 4* is better suited to the task you want than the 5*.

Long answer: In a vacuum, 5* servants will always outperform 4* servants that share their class and specialty. That's not always the case, though, because of different traits (Male vs Female, Divine, Saberface, etc) and variety in skill strengths (Charisma D vs Charisma B+, Intuition even existing, etc).

That's not to say that certain matchups (like the aforementioned Saberlot and Regular Altria comparison) won't come up in general favor of the 4*, but even comparing the two of them, you'll notice there are small discrepancies. Lancelot is a crit-based servant really well-suited for boss beatdowns, while Altria is supposed to bring AoE NP goodness for farming. They serve fundamentally different roles, and shouldn't be considered direct competition. Altria works best with others who can help her NP faster and buff her Buster cards, whereas Lancelot works better with crit star generators and crit damage boosters. The teams they work with are different, so sometimes it comes down to "which one can I support better with my lineup?"

Note: Grailing Lancelot is worth more than grailing Altria, but only because he gets more levels per grail than she does. End of the day (or at level 100, whichever comes first), her stats will still be higher than his, baseline.

SO. Herc over any 5* EXCEPT JAlter, Merlin and Waver. Lancelot Saber vs any ST Saber except Okita (are there even any?). Tituria Alter vs any AoE Lancer except Karna. Kintoki Rider is beaten only by Ozzy and, in terms of pure damage, Broskandar. Only Jack beats Shiki as Assasin. Arturia Alter is stornger than any other AoE Saber, Practically any SR Archer is better than Arjuna. And there are 3* Euryale, who is only beaten by Orion vs Male, 3* Cu, who is literally immortal and 3* Robin Hood, universal Saber-boss slayer.

There will be many of them as the game progresses and more of them come out but for now, there are a handful of 4* that are valued at the same level if not above 5 stars such as:

Top:
Heracles (widely considered top 5 4* servant possibly even best even in the JP version)
Rider Kintoki
Lancer Alter
Lancelot Saber

Others than can be argued for:
Ibaraki Douji (great defense for berserker + buff removal NP)
Nitocris (god farmer)
Mordred (niche but with proper team can be insane)
Martha Ruler (well rounded doesn't really excel in anything but is good nonetheless)
Rama (single target buster NP as a Saber + huge crits)
