Emiya or Heracles? (yet another advice question)

My head says Heracles, but my heart is for Emiya.

I never rerolled for Heracles because my first pull got D'Eon, Carmilla, and Marie. I could tell Carmilla was the best of the three, but after rerolling about 5-6 times and not getting Heracles, I just went with it. I guess since I don't use any of them any more (I managed to get a Jack which I found more useful than Carmilla), perhaps I should have just stuck it out for Heracles.

But in any case, my lineup goes: Caesar, Robin Hood, Cu, Ushi, Hans/Medea, Jack, Lu Bu, and Mash. Haven't pulled a ruler/avenger yet. So, obviously Heracles would be probably more useful to me than Emiya. As I expect to be *mostly* F2P (will probably buy some quartz, but won't be whaling any pulls by a long shot), my prospects of getting lots of 4/5* servants is pretty bleak. Either Emiya or Heracles is likely to stay NP1 for a very long time, and a maxed level/ascension/grailed Heracles is probably a very long ways off as well. Maybe because I didn't have a really usable Berserker until lately, my lineup isn't tuned to keeping a Berserker alive extremely well (I do have Georgios who I've mid-leveled, but no Waver to help pump NP gauge nor a Kaleidoscope CE, just a single Imaginary Element and slim prospects of any MLB version of either). So I'm not even sure how much I'd use Heracles even once I got him.

I've heard that Emiya will be a lot better eventually, but with an AoE NP, seems more tuned to farming than any hard boss battle anyways. I suppose that he might still be useful in situations where the final boss battle comes with adds or is multi-servant... So other than my fondness for Fate/SN, I'm not sure I'd really get a lot of use out of him. So, any advice for me?

You already have a good AoE archer like robin hood and heracles is one of the best single target damager so always is worth pick him.
Just choose whatever you like the most, isn't neceary to get every top rate servant

Robin isn't AoE though, and, in fact, if you look at my lineup, I don't have any AoE NP servants in my prime lineup. Probably the best damage-wise I have in the wings is Iskandar, but his NP is hard to charge and he's a bit weak defensively. I also have Teach and Arash though the first is limited by his ATK and the second by his one-shot use and no CE to allow him instant NP if I use a combat suit.

While the 'pick who you like first' advice is the most obvious, I would recommend Heracles for long term investment. I do have Emiya and Heracles from the start and at max level but I tend to front Herc most because of his damage at any class and he carried me from the start. When leveled properly, even without his bond CE Herc can survive most of the time. Emiya on the other hand has good buffs but most of the time he is used for farming saber nodes. If you choose Emiya, he has good compatibility with Jack as he can crit.

How leveled would I have to get Heracles before he's someone I would put into hard content (e.g., the raid from the last event, or say the 100 talisman quest from Sanzang)? This needs to take into account that while I have Mash reasonable leveled (52), I don't have a Waver and my only other taunter is Georgios. I also only have one Imaginary Element (non-MLB) to give him an NP boost. While I don't doubt that Heracles is a great servant, I'm questioning my ability to effectively use him.

Emiya undoubtedly starts off in a weaker position, but I lack even a good AoE servant for farming (Iskandar is probably the best I have in the wings, but as a 5* he's expensive to level, and has weak NP charging and defense). I generally go to my support friends for AoE atm, so it's not a fatal lack in most cases. But for this purpose, it seems like Emiya is more useful to me faster and can fit into more teams.

I guess part of the quandry is that given the servants I've gotten, I've not used a berserker much at all, even from supports. I have a lack of good berserker support, I think.

Once Herc has all his skills unlocked, he is all set for hard content. Herc doesn't need much of a team as he is independently good. Well, I suppose it would really depend on your current roster of your servants. As you have few AoE servants, you can choose Emiya. It is easy for him to gain NP due to his three arts card.

As someone who has both, Herc is better in just about every way. Herc's main draw is a ST buster NP which will become broken when Merlin comes out, and Herc's extremely high survivability for a Zerker. Herc has a Self atk buff, a one-turn dodge, and a revive in his skill set, and he also has his bond CE that gives him revive x3, to make him even harder to kill. He brings just about everything you could want in a servant, and his only drawbacks are that he needs to be max level to truly get everything out of him, he has a very bad crit weight, he has trouble gaining NP charge, and his low HP pool can lead to him being deleted before you get a chance to use his skills.

Emiya starts out worse, but he gets a few buffs along the way that elevate him to a much higher level. His main strength is that as an Archer, he is good. He has good Crit weight, can generate his NP fairly quickly with a 3 Arts deck, and has crit boosting skills later on. His drawbacks are that his NP hits like a wet noodle until he gets a strengthening quest, his deck doesn't synergize with his NP, due to it being a Buster, and that his survivability isn't that great. Emiya is also a pretty common event unit, so take that into consideration as well.

I'd say follow your heart. To clear off your doubt, Emiya is NOT a farming servant, he is meant to be AoE DPS (yeah, AoE can be a DPS). He shines the most in art crit team along with Tamamo + Mozart, Caster Gil, or Sherlock memes. His NP is AoE, but in art crit team, the 'AoE NP lacks damage and unsuited to kill bosses' becomes irrelevant since he can and will spam his NP along with crits outside of NP. Yeah sure, his NP is buster, but he can self buff himself with projection magic, and Tamamo's existence makes you to be able to use it over and over, so, people's worries over this should be irrelevant.

There is a reason why he is rated highly. He is really good that people compared him to Chloe and Chiron, both has ST NP. Comparing AoE servants and ST servants is something that won't happen often unless the said AoE servant is really an exceptional one, which Emiya is.

Heracles is also exceptional, but you need him bond 10 AND grailed to get the most out of him. He is top tier in part 1 (up to Solomon) but beyond that, it is very debatable IMO.
