I have been playing for nearly a week now and I'm still stuck at the first singularity, I have finished the final volume of the sanzang quests and now I'm stuck at the merit quest (the hundred merit one) because I can no longer ascend my servants. Should I go back to the main quest to get ascension materials??
I wouldn't say that you should give up the event completely but if you can't go any further with your current team, you should go farm some ascension materials and/or level up your servants for now. Come back to the event once they're a bit stronger and see what you can do from there.
I'd recommend doing what you can with the event, then just focusing on yourself. This game's not the friendliest to new players when it comes to event participation. The more you focus on you, the more you can participate down the line.
