Overview
- Chapter 9 Arrow 3 has Masters face off against Xiang Yu as well as the Prince of Lanling, aided by the latter’s Master Hinako Akuta. The stage consists of 3 waves, where the first 2 are filled with weak Rider-class Puppet Robots, with the two bosses waiting on the final wave as par the course.
- Xiang Yu has three HP bars (2 Breaks) and Lanling has two HP bars (1 Break). Xiang Yu’s first Break removes all debuffs currently on him and increases his Critical Strength by 20% for 3 turns, while his second Break gives him 500 Damage Cut and 500 Damage Plus for 3 turns. Lanling’s Break effect applies a 20% Attack Debuff on all frontline party members for 3 turns. Furthermore, when the first HP bar is depleted on either Servant, Hinako will use a Command Seal to give Lanling a Taunt as well as a 60% Defense buff for 3 turns.
- As in all stages with this sort of wave setup, it is advisable to use the first two waves to charge the frontline Servants’ NP gauges, as the Puppets deal low damage and can be eliminated at will thanks to their low HP. There should be no major issues in this part of the stage, but make sure to keep your Caster supports healthy (the Puppets are Riders, after all).
- The boss wave itself is relatively straightforward: Xiang Yu deals tons of damage (his criticals can be particularly devastating) and his AoE NP is a threat that looms ever closer with every turn, while Lanling provides support and his Taunt-and-Defense-buff gimmick has the potential to prolong the fight by a painful 3 turns.
- Despite Xiang Yu’s Berserker class, he is in fact the tankier of the two (even assuming that Lanling receives neutral damage), with around 618k total HP compared to Lanling’s 234k. Given this, it is much easier to eliminate Lanling first, which will also reduce the number of buffs that Lanling can provide to Xiang Yu. However, note that after Lanling is defeated, Xiang Yu can move three times per turn, so having defensive measures available will help the party last through his onslaught.
Team Recommendations
- Damage dealers of the Archer class are preferred for this stage. Naturally, prime AoE options such as Gilgamesh or Ishtar would be preferred, but single-target options are also welcomed, especially those with Defense Ignore (EMIYA (Alter), Asagami Fujino) and/or Invincibility Ignore (James Moriarty, Attila the San(ta)). Both bosses are also Male, meaning that Euryale or Orion would be able to work their magic.
- Berserkers with Defense Ignore (Lu Bu, Sakata Kintoki) also do well to fill the single-target role, utilized mainly to bypass Lanling Wang’s Defense buff while leaving the tankier Xiang Yu to the rest of the party. Another excellent option would be Mysterious Heroine X (Alter), who deals extra damage against Sabers.
- A backup damage dealer should ideally be prepared in order to finish off whichever of the bosses is left standing. Assuming that Xiang Yu is left for last, this can be virtually any Servant from any class, though Foreigners (e.g. Abigail Williams, Mysterious Heroine XX) work best. Single-target options are also preferred to AoE ones. This spot can also be filled by last stand Servants, such as Cu Chulainn (Alter) and Heracles.
- While Caster damage supports will be slightly under pressure in the first two waves, the damage boost and NP Charge they provide are essential to help the damage dealer(s) deal with the bosses as fast as possible. As usual, Merlin, Zhuge Liang, Scathach=Skadi, and Tamamo no Mae are top picks in this category, with Servants such as Helena Blavatsky and William Shakespeare serving as more accessible alternatives.
- By far the most devastating tool on the enemy’s side is Xiang Yu’s AoE NP, which he will a lot of the time get to use at least once. For this reason, Servants with party-wide Evasion or Invincibility (e.g. David or Tristan, both of whom also happen to be Archers) can be very valuable options to keep the frontline from being decimated.
- Taunters such as Mash Kyrielight and Georgios work great to redirect Xiang Yu’s attacks from the primary damage dealer. While they won’t be able to protect from Xiang Yu’s NP, this can be mitigated by using Mystic Codes such as Mystic Code: Chaldea or Atlas Academy Uniform, or by bringing along damage dealers with hard defensive skills.
