Overview
- The fourth of Battle in New York’s exhibition quests, the Nation of Jaguars’ theme centers around special field effects, and features three boss Servants, with Jaguar Warrior (representing [Forest]), Jeanne (Archer) ([Waterside]), and Nobunaga (Berserker) ([Burning]). Each boss comes with 100% Card Resistance of a particular type: Quick for Jaguar Warrior, Arts for Jeanne, and Buster for Nobunaga.
- The stage’s central mechanic is field switching; in essence, the field type switches to the associated to whichever boss is attacked last during that turn. The boss whose associated field type is active gains massive powerups to Damage Resist, Attack, and NP Damage, while the remaining two will have their NP damage greatly reduced.
- Upon Breaking each boss, these mechanics will be further enhanced, as attacking them will activate not just one, but TWO field effects. Furthermore, the boss will gain an additional passive effect when their associated field is active (see the boss details section).
- A key to clearing this stage is to ensure that the bosses’ NPs happen on turns where their field effect is not active, in which situation their NP Damage will be so low as to be completely nullified by things such as, for example, Mash Kyrielight’s Damage Cut (naturally, with a bit of aid from Defense Up buffs). Fortunately, all three bosses have different amounts of NP bar, so managing this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
- The recommended strategy for this stage is to prepare two damage dealers. One damage dealer will first focus down two of the three bosses, before the second counterclass damage dealer will come in to defeat the final one. Ideally, the first and second bosses’ defeats are done close to each other (before the third boss reaches Break), to prevent a situation where the remaining two bosses will have their field effects active most of the time.
- A central point about forming a team is to decide which of the bosses will be left for last. Nobunaga deals high normal attack damage, but is also the easiest to kill (thanks to her class), and most runs will see her eliminated pretty early on. Jeanne deals less damage (though she crits very often after Break), but is also the only boss with an AoE NP. Jaguar Warrior, albeit powerful in her own right, has a single target NP and her normal attacks aren’t as dangerous as Nobunaga’s (especially considering it can be mitigated through class advantage).
- In general, the last boss standing should be either Jaguar Warrior or Jeanne (Archer), depending on the class and NP type of the party’s second damage dealer.
- This stage can prove challenging for newer Masters due to potentially needing multiple damage dealers, owing to the bosses’ card resistance buffs; for example, Jaguar Warrior’s Quick Resistance means that Quick-based Sabers such as Caesar would not be useful against her.
Team Recommendations
- The first damage dealer should ideally be an AoE Servant with either Arts or Quick NP (depending on which boss will be left for last). For Arts damage dealers, any class other than Archer can be used, while Quick Servants could be from any non-Saber class, though Lancers are preferred due to their advantage against Jeanne (Archer). Ideally, the Servant picked should be one with high NP damage and at least decent survivability.
- If Jaguar Warrior is to be killed last, single-target Sabers with Buster or Arts NP should be used as the second damage dealer. Musashi is easily the most powerful option for this slot.
- Either Buster or Quick Lancers should be used as the second damage dealer if Jeanne is to be killed last. Those with single-target NP and hard defensive skills, such as Scathach and Enkidu are generally preferred, though AoE options such as Ereshkigal can also work with sufficient support.
- Barring the above, Avengers (such as Jeanne d’Arc (Alter)) as well as Berserkers can also be used, as the Guts effect provided by the event CE gives the latter some leeway in regards to survivability. Still, they will die faster compared to counterclass options, making their runs somewhat more volatile. A special nod should be given to Hijikata, whose extra-damage-at-low-health niche works really well with the event CE’s 1-HP Guts.
- Offensive supports are crucial to ensuring that boss kills happen in a timely manner, and those with Card Performance Up (such as Merlin and Scathach=Skadi) even allow the damage dealer to bypass some of the bosses’ Card Resistance Up buffs.
- The importance of defensive supports should not be underestimated either, as they act as get out of jail free cards against unfortunately-timed boss NPs. Mash Kyrielight, for example, greatly reduces the sustained damage dealt by the bosses, and offers a Taunt as well as Invincibility in crucial moments. Jeanne d’Arc’s party-wide Invincibility can be used to protect the entire frontline from multiple boss NPs happening in a single turn, and her Stun can be used to delay their NPs when needed.
- Similarly, Taunt Servants are very powerful in the late stages of the fight, ensuring the damage dealer’s survival against single-target boss NPs. They can also further support the damage dealer by way of on-death (Battle of Camlann, 500-Year Obsession) or on-entry CEs (Golden Catching the Carp, Ox-Demon King). Alternatively, Taunt CEs can be used to help them safeguard the party for an extra turn or two.
