MMM - A Banal Blessing Bestowed Before Burning Bygone Beings! (New Years Gacha 2020)

Time to play the game of “Is this NP just an original Japanese name or some sort of Untranslatable Chinese Idiom in Japanese form?”. Genshou ui Hiyokurenri is fairly easy to say though, so I can’t complain in that regard.

This NP is pretty unique so far as damaging NP’s go - solely due to how it scales with NP level. Not only does the damage multiplier go up, but also the burn damage - up to 6k per tick at NP5, for a total of 18k extra damage per NP! This is one of the few cases where I’d call a DoT notable for damage, especially when paired with the potential 3k burn damage over 3 turns from her 3rd skill.

The real meat and potatoes is the Overcharge effect, however. Dealing 150% damage when the target already has a burn (before the NP’s own burn, sadly) bumps up this NP’s damage output significantly - even with just her 20% def down active, her NP outdamages Abbie’s, dealing 46k damage to the witch’s 42k. With a theoretical triple def down debuff from Fairy of the Flame Wheel active, her NP is hitting for a raw 57k damage, well over common “high” damage NP’s such as Jalter’s or Musashi’s.

And bear in mind, that NP damage is with only one buff/debuff of the Holy Trifecta active - Def down / Atk up. With NP damage up / Arts up active on her, the damage increases multiplicatively - with just Royal Icing as her CE, the damage goes up to 76k in the same conditions, roughly a 35% increase in damage.

Now, the issue is getting that burn on without using two NP’s. Yes, she has her 3rd skill, but when not facing a male enemy being able to trigger it for a NP on turn 2 is inconsistent. So how do we make it consistent? There are three options:

• Use a “support” servant with a burn, such as Kiyohime.

• Use the “Bearded Gentleman’s Command Seal” Command Code on one of her cards.

• Use the Poster Girl CE on her.

I’m honestly going to throw the first option out - there’s no servant in the game at present with both a burn and half-decent supportive ability, so you simply sacrifice too much potential damage from Tamamo or another Arts support to run them. 

The Command Code option technically costs you nothing, but is still relying on RNG - if Yang doesn’t take an attack on turn 1 or get the Command Code’d card on turn 1 or 2, then she doesn’t have a burn. Thankfully, I can actually calculate the odds of it happening. The odds of getting a given card by turn 2 is roughly a 66.7% chance, and the odds of being hit at least once by a single Berserker (who attack twice in a turn) is roughly 55%. Multiplying the chance of NEITHER of those happening together, you get a 15% chance of no burn by turn 2.

So an 85% chance of getting the bonus damage. Not too bad, if you ask me. It does limit your chain options if you get it via the command code, but for a setup that requires essentially now investment it’s fairly consistent.

Lastly, Poster Girl. The Medusa 5* CE run with the original GudaGuda event banner. It gives the unit with it a 3-turn taunt upon entering battle, as well as a 3-turn 60% (80% when LB) attack buff. The damage increase for the initial few turns with this CE is, needless to say, obscenely high, but having your primary damage dealer, even one with some defensive skills, taking all attacks for 3 turns can be a little harsh. Getting those def downs and burns off immediately is very satisfying, however.

I’ve written all this stuff about her NP, and I haven’t even discussed the refund / looping potential.

Being the same hitcount as her Arts cards, Yang’s NP has a 6.12% base refund. Not amazing, but not bad, either. With both Tamamo and Nero Bride supporting her and doing a NPAA chain, she gets a solid 77% gauge refund total. Critting on either of her Arts cards brings it over to 100%, and she barely hits 100% doing NPQA with all crits, too.

It’s worth remembering that this is versus a neutral NP gain modifier enemy, however. Berserkers apply 0.8x to all NP gain from interactions with them, so versus her primary enemy type, Yang needs a full NPAA crit chain to get a complete refund. Her first skill’s 10% gauge charge per turn gives her some leeway with this, as does the fact that I haven’t considered overcharge / overgauge at all in these calculations. 

So the brass tacks are, versus most targets she can loop in Arts comps fairly easily assuming she has a star supply from Fragments of 2030 CE’s, being able to get full refund if she pulls one Arts card for the chain. Versus Berserkers she meets more issues, but it can be mitigated with Overcharge, Mystic Codes, or a Battlesuit swap support.
