Rabbit's Reviews #234: Leonardo da Vinci (5* Rider)

Introduction

Lostbelt da Vinci debuts as the fourth anniversary SSR, and she’s one of the best AoE Arts servants we’ve seen in a long while, on top of being the first SSR Arts Rider. Much like Saber Shiki and Caster da Vinci, Rider da Vinci sacrifices raw burst damage in favor of consistency and bulk. She has exceptionally good NP refund potential and a strong mix of utility that makes her an excellent point servant for stable Arts teams.

Da Vinci’s Golden Rule is kind of ridiculous. It keeps the passive healing from Caster Da Vinci’s version of the skill but ups the passive NP charge to match Penth’s. With this active, da Vinci can easily use her NP multiple times in a row (thanks to the charge effect on the NP itself coupled with da Vinci’s good NP gain), and it helps keep da Vinci alive and makes her immune to debuffs in the process. Really awesome skill.

Accel Turn is an exact copy of Riderin’s skill of the same name, and it works much the same—it’s a short-CD dodge that can’t be wasted, and it also lets da Vinci push her crit damage for a turn. Unlike in Riderin’s case, this is da Vinci’s only source of hard survival, which means she theoretically can’t use it quite as liberally unless supports have NP protection covered, but the cooldown is short enough that saving this exclusively for emergency survival is likely to be rather unnecessary in practice, especially with a Tamamo on the team.

Dream of the Stars is yet another super strong skill. It’s a three-turn 30% NP damage boost that applies to the whole party, which essentially makes it a “better Charisma” at base (although da Vinci generally wants to be paired with two supports, so the buff is unlikely to apply to anyone but herself in most cases). The skill also charges the party’s NP gauge by 10%. Party battery skills are fairly rare, and AoE batteries on CDs this short even more so. On top of that, the skill boosts party overcharge by 1 for a turn, which lets da Vinci herself do a bit more damage and can help the likes of Merlin and Tamamo support more effectively if you have their NPs lined up. This skill would be really powerful even on a longer cooldown, and the only thing keeping it from being truly insane is that da Vinci isn’t a support and thus the NP damage buff is likely to be effectively selfish in most practical situations.

Beautiful Journey is an AoE Arts NP with a pre-cast Arts buff. The pre-cast buff is nice, but it’s mostly there to offset da Vinci’s otherwise low steroids, and even with the buff factored in her damage is kinda low. This is offset by the second effect, a partywide 20% NP charge. While the raw refund on this NP isn’t amazing, this AoE battery plus da Vinci’s Golden Rule means she effectively gets a 40% refund at base before the actual NP hits or any subsequent cards. Da Vinci’s loop conditions in farming contexts are rather tight, but in CQs (where she can likely follow her NP with cards) or with Waver help da Vinci can very easily use her NP several times in a row, giving her very high sustained damage output even though her burst damage falls behind other servants. Additionally, she’ll be charging the NP gauges of her supports in the process, so when da Vinci finishes with her sequential NPs her supports will likely be ready to patch the team up and prepare for the next rotation. It’s really really nice.

Da Vinci is a really strong servant if you like more traditional Arts teams, and she has loop potential as well. She’s a super elegant servant overall, and she’s easily one of the best AoE Arts servants in the game. If you have her role covered (or if you don’t run Arts) you don’t need her, but otherwise she’s a great servant to pull for.
