Withe the 1/2 AP main quest event, I made it from London to Camelot, but can't get past Gawain at all in Ep 4(after 5 tries with archer artoria, or chloe von einzbern support), so wondering if a better team composition would help, so am asking for advice.

You don't mention Mash, did you level her up? It is strongly advised you do, because she is really good at protecting your team.
My team for Gawain was: lvl 60 Euryale (I did her enhancement quests, but didn't level up her skills), support Euryale (lvl 80 iirc), and lvl 60 Mash. Thanks to the Euryales' charms, the team hardly took a hit.
You're good with both mains but you need a support who can heals so I recommend merlin, so if u want one I send you my Summoner ID :3

Any of the Arts-based archers (Archuria, Chloe, Robin, Euryale) should be your primary offensive servant.
Then you want a support and a defensive servant. Hans, Mash, Jeanne, Tamamo, and Waver do well.
The team I used was Robin(np3, lv 70), Jeanne (lv 90), Tamamo (lv 90). Gawain went down in a couple of turns.
Basic strategy was:
- Use Jeanne’s np to block gawain’s np
- Use Tamamo to charge Jeanne’s NP as fast as possible
- Use Arts chains to charge everyone’s np as quickly as possible
- If Jeanne’s np isn’t up in time, evade with Robin’s skill and use Plugsuit to switch out Tamamo for someone in the backline who can die to an np.
I have all 3 of those on my support list (Robin is at 90), so let me know if you’d like to use one.
Just keep at it, level up your servants, and don’t be afraid to use command seals to revive!
Everyone seems to be passing over the best option, Orion. I used her to steam roll Gawain in all the battles with him. Thanks to her 2nd skill giving a damage boost to males, her NP, well his, has no issues tearing up Gawain. Match her with Tamamo/Gil Caster and Mash as the tank.
