Any tips for beginners?
So I'm new to FGO and was wondering if there are any helpful tips you guys can give a new player, what should I do, what units should I look out for, what events should I save for, that kind of stuff

Take it slow. Enjoy the game.
Roll the friend point gacha. Save up to np5 for all 1~3stars that are tier 3 or above on this site. Try using friend supports to see which servants you like.
Ask more questions on this site whenever confused.

I would suggest keeping an eye on youtubers as well. Voice of Saint Quartz, Chaldea Gurus, FGO Tips, and G&A Reviews have some nice beginner stuff. From there you can branch out to some of the other youtubers for more specific stuff. As for some general beginner stuff, work through the story but also prioritize completing events, 1-3 stars are good to use, and save your saint quartz for servants you really want.
I would also suggest focusing on leveling up your servants and as you progress, level up the skills you need. There are many instances where I leveled up skills thinking I would need them but never do or even use the servant anymore. Crystallized Lores are also a limited resource reserved for events sooo, prioritize that. A good place to have most skills is lvl 6.

For one, keep a copy of each servant you get, even the 1* to 3* ones. You'd be surprised how useful some of them are. Get them up to NP5 first then you can start burning(selling) or using the extra copies as EXP. I suggest using the LOCK feature so you don't sell a servant or use it as EXP fuel by mistake. 5* are locked by default but 4* (I think) and below are unlocked.
Read each Servant's page here on the site to see what they have to offer. It comes with a detailed Pros and Cons list to break down their strengths and weaknesses. Even a low-tier, low star servant could surprise you.
Second, take care of your kouhai XD. It's a meme for a reason. Mash is going to be invaluable once you get to Camelot and get access to all her skills and her strengthened NP. Seriously though, level her up as well as her skills.
Third... Have fun? XP
Seriously, just have fun with the game. Lots to do and you can get through the story up until America on pretty much a borrowed Friend's Servant so don't worry too much. Try to participate in events as much as possible rather than the story. The story isn't going anywhere but events are limited time and offer limited/rare/unique rewards (holy grails, crystallized lores, craft essences, and even free 4* Servants).
Cirnopedia is also a good site for reference and research. It has a list of the Japanese server's events and Summon banners so you can see what events will come next and what limited Servants are coming up. You can use that to plan which servant to save up for.
If you need it (you most likely do) I still have a few friend slots open so you can add me if you want. 971,748,936. Let me know you IGN if it's different from you name here so I know it's you. I don't have a lot of limited Servants, or even gamebreakers like Merlin, but what I have is pretty decent.
Have fun and welcome to FGO.

When participating in events, try to clear event shops (except for monuments, gems, and pieces; usually you get enough of these through the main story and dailies) as there is a lot of stuff you will most likely need in some ungodly quantities, and farming them somewhere else is a pain in the neck. Just stockpile everything you see. Event shops are lifesavers. Also, if the event has some servant as a completion bonus, try to get him/her (it's better to get all 5 copies) as they often are really good.
Try to complete daily quests, especially if you're stuck somewhere in the main story/there's no event/somehow you have time and AP for this. Aside from ascension and level-up materials, you get mana prisms which you can exchange for very useful things like summon tickets and Fous in the Shop. But I wouldn't recommend farming Training Grounds for ascension materials as it isn't very effective (for example, Hearts of Foreign God. NEVER, EVER try to farm it on the Training Grounds. It's easier to find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow).
Hmm, what else... don't use apples outside of events or 1/2 AP campaigns. Don't use Saint Quartz to restore AP. Don't forget to log in daily as you get 20 SQ every 50 days of uninterrupted logins.
Try to plan ahead which servants you'd like to get in the gacha. A lot of servants are only available during special summon campaigns for a limited time, and it may be a veeeeeery long time until the next campaign for this servant. And remember that gacha is cruel, and you don't always get what you want but don't despair!
Actually, you'll get the hang of all of it after a couple of weeks of playing :) If you need friend support: 531,873,837.
Welcome to Chaldea :)

Some gameplay tips are:
1) if you go to the attack phase but forgot to use buffs or if an enemy kills one of your servants, you can reset that turn by closing the FGO app and reopening it. It’ll start from the beginning of that turn again
2) Continuing from tip 1, if you use any skill, the attack pattern of the enemies will change. For example if they Crit 3 times before, maybe if you use a skill, now they’ll use a buff and attack twice. Also the star distribution will change
3) for good units and events to save for, honestly just look at the tier lists or see if there’s any servants you want in the future by looking at JP event list. We’re 2 years behind them.
4) when leveling servants, use only half the amount of exp needed in case you get super or great success. Example: if they need 200000 exp give 100000. If that doesn’t work then try 50000 and so on. It’ll save some embers in the long run
5) CE exp bombs can save you some QP when leveling up CEs. Google how to do this if you want but it’s not the most important thing.
6) it’s not so important in the beginning when you have more space in your inventory but you should try to keep ember presents (from events and daily login) in your present box. It’ll save you inventory space and give you a backup exp storage for double exp success events.
7) for card chains, if you’re about to kill an enemy in 1 hit and you have two arts cards and ones arts NP, you can build an arts chain using those three arts cards. This will help build np for the following waves. This also works with quick cards.
8) NP cards aren’t affected by their order in card chain. With normal cards, the third card does more dmg. With NP, it does the same regardless so you usually want to start with NP as first card.
9) Arash is a good free servant that can help speed up your farming.
10) for events, there’s usually a 3 star CE in the FP summon that helps with drop rate of event materials. Roll in the FP summon to get one of them to speed up event farming.

Bind your account, it'll help you a lot if something happens I promise. Save quartz for rate ups and events only, it's better than putting your luck into the story gatcha. I have Tamamo and Jeanne Alter so my friend code is 260,365,422 if you want help :)

Be QP wise. In the beginning it will seem like you have infinite qp, but as soon as you start seriously leveling skills, especially in gold servants, that infinite pool will shrink to nothing in a blink. It costs the same qp to feed gold and bronze exp cards, so try to just burn the bronze and silver one (silver gives you a mana prism when burned). Learn how to use CE exp bombs to save qp there too. It costs a couple hundred qp per card to feed a level 1 CE, but several thousand qp when they get over lvl 20 of so. Accumulating exp in a low level card and then feeding to a useful ce can save you millions of qp.

Check the Mana Prism Shop once a month for Summon Tickets, Exp Cookies, and Fou cards. The 30AP Ember gathering quest is the best place to farm for exp cards to burn for mana prisms, especially during 1/2ap ember gathering.
Put Craft Essences on all your support servants. Most people I know who play the game won't accept a friend with no CEs on their supports.
Don't worry too much about which servants to grail; just grail your favorite. The game can be won without grailing anyone, so it's more for fun.
If you can only make time for one event this year, make time for the Onigashima event in June(ish). The welfare servant Kintoki is one of the best free servants in the game and there will be some fantastic spots for farming ascension mats.
