Unless you are prepared to pay money you'll never get enough sq to np5. Id just save up as much as you can and just be happy with getting one copy. It's hard enough to just get one copy sometimes let alone multiple. Unless you consider yourself to have ex level luck of course.

Since there’s a 0.7% chance of getting B.B. during a rate up, it’ll take 667 rolls (2001 quartz) to have a 50% chance of getting NP 5 (or more). I didn’t bother doing the math by hand but it’s binomial distribution probability unless I did it wrong.
For reference, 1000 quartz (333 rolls) would give you a 8.67% chance while 1500 quartz (500 rolls) gives a 27.42%
So it is possible for f2p but it’s gonna be pretty hard

As someone hoping to np5 Merlin, I've played with summon simulation a bit. On average, you about 2000 SQ to do it, but if your luck is truly terrible 3000 is what it will take.

It took me about 1.2k saint quartz to get NP5 Cu alter on the JP version and around 900 quartz for a NP4 Gil. This is during both of their rateups btw.
