Currious about Apples

Just Curious I know you can never have too much, but how much is enough, do you have a number you try to keep in reserve and is there a point where you get more "free" with how and when you use them.
For me i would put it as
Minimum - 10
Average - 30
Meh i have more - 45-50+
btw currently have 46 Apples (had more but used a few to burn though the early stage of the event as i was impatient)
