Anyone know when the next waver banner is coming and when Merlin is coming?

Should I start saving for Merlin, or should I roll for waver when his banner arrives?

Also on a side note, how much is the recommended amount of SQ I should have before going for a 5* servant?

Next waver rate up is during the class-based summoning campaign, which is estimated to start mid-august according to here: https://grandorder.wiki/Upcoming_Events

Personally I wouldn't try to roll for Merlin since everybody is rolling for him and you'll probably be able to get a friend on your support list with an NP5 10/10/10 max grailed Merlin.

As for the recommended amount, check this spreadsheet. On average, a person will get an SSR every 300 SQ, or 100 rolls since it's a 1% chance.

Though its true that will be the average its worth noting there is still a 36% chance of not getting a 5* after 100 rolls which is obviously a much higher number than intuition tells us. And obviously thats only a 5* for getting a specific 5* on rate up 100 rolls has a 49.5% chance of not giving you the servant you want.175 rolls will give you ~70% odds of getting what you want and if you want a 90% chance of getting your target you need a massive 325 rolls.

Or you can just have EX luck either way~

On the point of Merlin being on the support list, the same can be said about Waver. While it's arguable that when Merlin drops he will appear in the friend list more than Waver, I don't think Waver will be phased out completely.

That being the case, whether OP should roll for Merlin or Waver depends entirely on personal preference, and I would argue it's better for OP to roll Merlin since he's the only one on rate-up for his banner so there's a much lower risk that OP will be spooked by another 5*. Also Merlin's banner being later in the year gives OP more time to save quartz.

its not a %1 and its not a guaranteed percentage either. you can roll a thousand times and still not get and ssr which a lot of whales tend to do
there is even a official warning every gacha game makes

To be fair, the guy never said it was guaranteed, he said you'd need 300 SQ = 100 rolls on average, which is true. That said, 300 SQ will certainly not guarantee you anything. My strategy as a f2p player is just to pick 1 servant I really want and save every single free SQ I get for that servant, spending tickets for other servants that I want in between and hoping for the best.
