What am I doing wrong?

I apologize that this sounds like just complaining and not really a question... but it honestly feels like I'm doing something wrong in game. I hear all these people going on about after only playing for a few months they have a few 5 stars and at least a couple of them are good ones. After playing since late March/early April, I have only managed to get one, Mordred. Then I do the gacha... and end up with Medb, who is apparently one of the absolute worst 5 stars in the game and, apparently, one of the worst servants in general.

I'm basically wondering if because I can't seem to have any luck with 5 stars, if the game is going to go badly for me. Are 5 stars needed to be able to do the harder content? Will it eventually all equal out? Or am I screwed because I can't seem to roll good 5 stars? I'm sorry again for the dumb question. I just... I guess I want reassurance that despite all this, I can still enjoy the game and there'll be things to look forward to, because right now it doesn't feel that way.

Edit: Thanks for all the words everyone. It made me feel a lot better. It just felt overwhelming at first, getting a character who not only isn't that good, but is also the enemy of my favourite character (Cu Chulainn) I just needed the reassurance. So thanks again guys. It meant a lot.

There is no content that requires you to have 4 and/or 5 star servants. They will make it easier for sure, but leveled 1-3 star servants will be perfectly adequate.

SSR servants aren't needed to beat or enjoy the game, as long as you know how to properly use your skills that is.
The most important thing is that you are happy with what you get, a friend of mine dropped the game because he got no SSR after 90 SQ, I was happy because I got frankenstein after 120 SQ.
If you enjoy the game keep playing and you will eventually get some 5 stars (keep in mind that luck is a very important factor)

To add as well on what others said on not requiring 4/5 stars to complete the game, Medb despite being one of the lower tier servants in the 5* category is still really strong at the end of the day due to being a 5*SSR alone. She also her niches in certain bosses and events so don't worry about it too much.

Eventually you'll have better luck in the future and before you know it, you'll have a full set of strong servants. On top of that, there's plenty of welfare servants in the future that will help out even further.

I really wouldn’t worry about it too much. The story content can certainly be beaten without any SRs or SSRs. Camelot may be harder without them and you may need to use a SQ here and there to beat some of the harder bosses. Most of the events are easier than Camelot. You may have to grind more on the lower raids but you can still get them done.

But I can understand the question. You’ve had some bad luck and you’re right, Medb sucks. But it’s all about luck on the pulls and I can understand it’s a little more fun to have the high tier servants. You’re luck can turn quick though. After awhile of terrible pulls I suddenly got 2 SSRs and an SR in one pull. So it can certainly change for you and I wish you good luck on your future pulls!!

If you need some help on the friend list here is my code: 825,960,988 I have Jalter, Tamamo caster, OG Saber, Orion, Scathach, Anne & Marie, Waver and Ibaraki currently on my support roster. So if they can help ya feel free to friend me. I just cleared my list today

And for garret sylvar don't be sad to much, I didn't have much ssr too, but I can finished the event and the singularity, so you must know you're servant and your enemy before you get some quest,

Let's be honest. You don't need any SR/SSR to beat in-game content.

But I understand. I am a F2P, and I already played for 100+ days, got three 5* . And yes, the least and last one is Medb, from today's gssr (my first purchase!). You've spend time and money, yet you did not get any good things. You feel that you deserved it. I know! Because I feel it too! If I spend the same amount of time and money on other things for 3 months straight , let say become a freelancer. Maybe I already earn hundreds of $. If I spend that time and money for my thesis (yes, this is real) , maybe I already graduate now.

The thing is, you just need to let go and find REAL reason to stay in this game. One and only thing that makes me happy to play FGO is : Story. Other than that, once you earn a good 5* and start to love them, you will be happy to grind those boring daily missions.

Find a reason. One thing that makes this game special. And save your SQ for ONE servant that you truly love, not for the sake of gameplay, but because you love the character itself.

Good luck my friend.

No they aren't needed to do harder content, the only draw back to anything less than a 5* though is you need to use grails to get them to level 90, which is the level cap for a fully ascended 5*... (3* servants level cap at 70 after their fourth ascension) Which is why I'd advise you to never use a grail on a 5 star servant... Unless it is Jalter for friend points.

To be perfectly honest, the gacha system is always determined by luck. While the lows that come from not getting what you want are bad, the highs from rolling things you want are also amazing. Honestly, just keep rolling and appreciate it whenever you are pleasantly suprised.

It's also never good to compare yourself to others, since you inevitably end up focusing on those who have it better than you. This is true for everything, not just this game. If it's any consolation, your situation is nothing too out of the ordinary, many others face the same thing. In fact, a mate of mine spent more than $100 on the game for the first time a month ago and got nothing to show for it. You'll be fine.

Being an F2P especially, the gacha can be painful. But honestly one of my favourite things about this game is that it really does not require 5*s nor force you to only play with the "top tier" units.

I've played since week 1 (last year early July), and while my first 5* was from rerolling, I basically hoarded all my quartz and went for months without a second SSR. I lucked out on a ticket with a 5* spook (was actually aiming for the 2030 CE) and I only pulled for a SSR again some more months later in February with my hoarded quartz (for Dantes, who is also widely regarded as a horrible SSR, but I liked him in his event). All this time I just leveled 1-3*s from the FP gacha and was able to complete all of the story and events. Of course it's a bit harder, but it could also be a bit more fun since you have to focus more on thinking of strategies to use your servants wisely since they'll lack in stats, and rely on good friend supports that have synergy with your team (or are able to carry it).

Instead of focusing on 5*s I think it's more fun to play with who you like. If you've touched other parts of the franchise that'll probably make the decision easier, but otherwise play around with all the servants (find supports if you don't have them) and see who you like, watch videos of future servants etc. and that will probably make the gameplay more enjoyable than just going straight for whoever is 'good'. You'll easily find videos of people clearing the hardest content with low rarities with a bit of ingenuity, so you have nothing to worry about. Eventually your luck will turn around too!

It's alright! I started playing around santa alter and so far i only have 3 ssr- and i lacked good servants before. There were times where i got extremely salty because not even 4* dropped for me, but since i tried to focus more on story, it's been easier to enjoy the game more. It's hard when your luck is shit yes, but if you try to enjoy other things aside from gacha, I'm sure your luck will get better without you realize it!

And yeah, my luck just got better recently and i feel that all my hard work to raise low stars are worth it and just got rewarded now, since I'm f2p.

You don't need 5 stars to beat the game. And look at it the other way around, some people not even have any SSR and you at least have 2 (I myself only have one and I have been playing since February), it is just a matter of extreme luck.
