Nasuverse Interpretation
Personality and Appearance
Despite her portrayal in The Crucible and other media as the main manipulative force and instigator of the events of the Salem Witch Trials, the historical Abigail was in the end just a girl of 12, and could not possibly have been aware of the full implications of her actions. In FGO, she behaves accordingly to that description. As a naive and innocent young girl, she is virtuous and God-fearing. However, she still carries all the guilt from the memories of what she has done, and is burdened by the knowledge of the deaths she historically caused, which is what allows her to grow into a suitable host for Sut-Typhon over the course of the Salem loops - exactly according to Raum's plan.
In her initial Ascension, from the beginning of the chapter, she is still the same relatively friendly and innocent child, and is afraid of her (then-incomplete) powers, as seen when she cowers in fear during her own Extra animation and displayed by her attacks using incomplete, translucent tentacles. However… as she ascends throughout the chapter into her Silver Key form, that fear is replaced by acceptance and nonchalance as she calmly uses her Outer God connection and fully-manifested tentacle attacks, as well as her symbolic keys. All in all, though - despite her status as the host of Sut-Typhon (who was associated with Yog-Sothoth by Aleister Crowley’s disciple Kenneth Grant), neither the Salem version of Abigail nor the playable version are actively malicious, and the majority of Salem Abigail’s actions are motivated by fear and not understanding what is going on, as well as the stress of the deaths around her. Even in her higher Ascensions, Chaldea’s Abigail remains firmly loyal to her new Master.
Observe the difference between Abigail’s first Ascension NP and her later Ascensions (somewhat NSFW):
Parameters, Alignment, and Notable Skills
STR: B END: A
AGI: C MP: B
LUK: C NP: A
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Of immediate note are Abby’s absurd physical stats for a preteen human girl. Her B-Rank STR and A-Rank END speak to an inhuman strength and durability that is no doubt conferred on her because of the tinkering of Demon Pillar Raum and her connection with Sut-Typhon. AGI and LUK are average, and her MP and NP stats are high. As she is turned into the Key over the course of the Salem loops, it stands to reason that Abby can handle an absurd amount of mana (or she wouldn’t be able to serve Raum’s purposes), and the horrific power of her EX-Rank Noble Phantasm Qliphoth Rhizome explains her A-Rank in NP. Most likely the reason she lacks an EX in that parameter is due to her NP not being used to its full scale, which will be explained on the next page.
The Chaotic Evil of her alignment is misleading for the reasons mentioned above; despite her powers and role being thoroughly drenched in eldritch evil, the girl known as Abigail Williams is not, on her own merits, an evil being even when taking into account her role in the witch trials. It is likely the connection to Sut-Typhon which informs this alignment designation.
Her Personal Skills are:
Loss of Sanity:
This refers not to her own mind, but the ability of the Outer God Sut-Typhon to shatter the minds, morals, and psyches of all the frail humans who are unfortunate enough to come into contact with her while she is the Silver Key.
Prayer of Faith:
Abigail, still a devout Puritan in the Nasuverse, continues to perform her prayers and appeals to God every day, amidst all that goes on around her.
Witch Trial:
Perhaps the most unfortunate of her personal skills. Almost like a variant of Innocent Monster, Abby will suffer from the jealousy and hate of others around her even if she has not earned it. Likely born of the suspicious and hateful nature of the town of Salem during the Salem Witch Trials, and foisted onto Abigail due to her responsibility in setting those events into motion.
