Boss Analysis
- During this encounter, you only need to reduce Gawain’s HP to 75% of its maximum to complete the quest (279,564 HP). He may stick around a bit longer until he can do an Extra Attack after hitting the HP benchmark.
- Gawain’s normal attacks do 2,000 – 3,500 damage per hit, and he will choose targets at random.
- Gawain follows the traditional class advantage chart, although his passive buff severely reduces the amount of damage that can be dealt to him.
- Gawain gains an extra NP charge every turn due to his passive buff (essentially 2 charges per turn) and will always start his turn with his NP attack once his gauge is full.
- Gawain has a passive 17.5% Magic Resistance, meaning that even if your skills have a debuff success rate of 100%, the rate is effectively 82.5% and still has a chance of missing.
Team Composition Recommendations
- Single target Archer class Servants are good choices, particularly those with a trait advantage such as anti-Male (Euryale, Orion) or can take advantage of a bonus multiplier through other means (Robin Hood). Gilgamesh is also a possible option due to his anti-Servant NP.
- A support Servant that is capable of granting buffs relevant to your damage dealers’ card colors can really boost NP damage turns, and is more effective than straight up running 3 damage dealers.
- In this encounter, since his NP is just a single target hitting attack, Servants with taunt and/or some form of invincibility can be used to mitigate his NP turn damage (Mash Kyrielight, Chevalier d’Eon).
- Mystic Code: Chaldea Combat Uniform is useful for its stun to help delay his NP turn, as well as its Order Change, which allows you to pull a Servant out of harm’s way and bring in a taunt Servant when his NP turn is up.

Boss Analysis
- Gawain’s normal attacks do 2,000 – 3,500 damage per hit, and he will choose targets at random.
- Gawain follows the traditional class advantage chart, although his passive buff severely reduces the amount of damage that can be dealt to him.
- Gawain gains an extra NP charge every turn due to his passive buff (essentially 2 charges per turn) and will always start his turn with his NP attack once his gauge is full.
- If Gawain is not impeded, he will NP your team every 2-3 turns with Excalibur Galatine.
- Gawain has a passive 17.5% Magic Resistance, meaning that even if your skills have a debuff success rate of 100%, the rate is effectively 82.5% and still has a chance of missing.
Team Composition Recommendations
- The greatest threat in this battle is his constant onslaught of AoE NPs, so bringing Servants that can both do damage and have stalling abilities are most effective. Euryale fits the role perfectly, being an anti-Male ST Archer with a charm skill and charm on her NP, and an NP gauge drain skill. Orion is also a great choice with her anti-Male skill and the NP gauge drain on her NP (100% success rate after Strengthening).
- Damage-wise, Single target Archer class Servants are good choices, particularly those with a trait advantage such as anti-Male (Euryale, Orion) or can take advantage of a bonus multiplier through other means (Robin Hood). Gilgamesh is also a possible option due to his anti-Servant NP.
- A support Servant that is capable of granting buffs relevant to your damage dealers’ card colors can really boost NP damage turns, and is more effective than straight up running 3 damage dealers.
- David is a great choice for this encounter as his second skill grants the entire party Evasion for 1 hit, which will tide your party over for at least one of his NPs. He also has the added bonus of bringing an Archer class single target NP to your team. Mash is also another option, as the targetable NP gauge charge and Invulnerability can be used to protect your primary damage dealer in a pinch.
- Utilizing a charm-lock team of Euryale / Stheno / Euryale (support) is another option. It is possible to defeat Gawain without ever letting him use his NP by alternating the three Servants’ NPs (which have charm effects), their charm skills, and their NP gauge drain skills (as well as the Stun on Mystic Code: Chaldea Combat Uniform). You may wish to utilize Arts performance CEs on Euryale or NP gain up CEs (Divine Banquet) to make sure you’re more likely to have your NP gauge full when needed.
- Mystic Codes with either an Invincibility move or a Stun can help buy a few extra turns to deal enough damage to Gawain through the onslaught of his Excalibur Galatine.
